1740 – Passage land plot is purchased by famous Russian architect Zemtsov

(a student of Tresini who worked on construction in Peterhoff and Pushkin

as well as many buildings and churches in Saint Petersburg) who begins

construction of his mansion, but doesn’t finish due to his death in 1747

1747 – Empress Elizabeth buys the land plot from Zemtsov’s widow

1840 – The land plot is purchased by Duke Essen-Stenbock-Fermour

1846-1848 – Duke Essen-Stenbock-Fermour builds Passage as designed by

architect Zhelyazevitch. The first floor is occupied by warehouses, the

Second floor – retail, and the third floor – apartments. A concert hall is

built facing Italianskaya Street.

1897 – Bank Credit Lyonnais rents a portion of Passage. At the time, this is

the only foreign bank with permission to operate in Russia.

1901 – Architect Kozlov rebuilds Passage for its new owner, Duchess

Baryatinskaya. One floor is added, the main façade is rebuilt.

1933 – Passage becomes official State Department Store in Soviet era

1934 – Minor replanning is done to the building by architect Trotsky

1961 – The first soviet women’s department store opens in Passage

2006 – Passage is privatized

2007 – 2010 – Passage acquired by oligarchs and leveraged

2011 – Passage is purchased by investment and development company
