BLOCK PRINT TECHNIQUE

As interviewed, this worker tells us that his work is the first thing to do in batik making. He prints the motive on white cloth using block or “sarang” that dipped in the hot wax.

This is hot liquid wax which used as ink in print making and motive drawing process. This ink also acts as border in colouring process.

•BATIK MOTIVE DRAWING•This worker draws the motives on plain white cloth before colouring it. This process called canting and the ink used in this process is hot wax. This skillfull workers tells us thats he work as batik artist for almost 15 years.

After print or drawing the motives, the second process is colouring the motives and the background. This aunty as interviewed, can colour up to 25 pieces of batik a day. She already work for Ayu Batik for 6 years.

To preserve the colour, first the batik clocth must soaked in sodium silicate concentration and left hanging under the roof for 8 hours.

After the 8 hours of hanging, the cloth then is soaked in hot water to remove wax and excessive sodium silicate.

The last process in batik making is hanging the garment and left it to dry.
