Muturoa Mission Jodie took ten children over to the Hunter Brown Reserve on Rough Island / Rabbit Island yesterday to take part in the Moturoa Sustainability Challenge.
The children were required to follow a map to find the various activity stations, where they had to complete the challenges set.
Thanks to Brian Nesbit and Rachel Climpson for helping with transport as well as
working with the children during the challenge. The children all worked well together and though it rained all day they stuck to
their tasks. We were especially proud of Kate who was only one of three children to stand
up in front of 150 and talk about our schools display.
I liked playing the fishing game because I learnt a lot of new things and I now know the shape of a John Dory. Trey I enjoyed the game at the end where we had to invent our own game using what was around us. We made ours out of sticks, rocks and flax. Anna My favourite game was the fishing game. We had to catch certain fish with magnets and avoid catching others like turtles and albatrosses. I also enjoyed having to make a game using the nature around us like sticks and leaves. Caitlin W The fishing game was great because I thought it was quite a cool idea of choosing a fish and only catching a certain amount. I liked how it wasn’t just fish but also dolphins, sharks, whales albatross and turtles. Will I enjoyed all the fun activities because you interacted in them and did lots of practical things. The board game where you got to be the pieces was really neat. Poppy I found the trapping game interesting because of the smells of the baits they use for pests. One bait smelled like peanut butter and another like cinnamon. The bait that smelled like dead fish was for stoats. The possum fur was really soft. Daisy In the bird watching I spotted lots of tuis and fantails. It was fun putting the special plastic tubes over the trees to protect them from the wind and from the hares and rabbits. Phoebe At the trapping activity I found the fur nice and soft and it was cool seeing all the different types of traps. Catlin A I liked going around trying to find all the different stations and at the same time exploring a different area. My favourite activity was where we had to find bugs. I found two spiders, which I don’t like and two slaters. Kate

Motupipi Triathlon We had planned to hold this prior to Easter, however
with the build up of campers at the Pohara Top 10 it makes it hard to get enough space for us, so we plan to
hold it at the end of the year.
BOT Information Evening Next Tuesday at 7pm If you are interested in becoming a Board of Trustees
member or just want to find out a bit more about the role of the Board, we invite you to come along to a
meeting next Tuesday evening at 7pm.
The aim of evening will to give you an idea of what is involved in being a BOT member. It will also be a
chance to talk to our current board members who can share their experiences.
We look forward to catching up with some of you then.
I was pretty nervous going out in the
boat as it went so fast. I got a tug after 2 or 5 minutes. The
fish fought a lot and it was hard to wind so Dan helped me. It was a big
blue cod!
I was pretty pleased with myself. Dan and Logan were impressed and
said it was a good size. It was my first real fish.

Camp Fun
I loved the sailing but at first I did not know how to steer, but I got the hang of it quickly. It was really fun.
I also went in Logan's speed boat to the other side of the Inlet, it was beautiful.
When we had dinner, lunch or something to eat the
ducks would come and try and eat the food out of your hands.
I can’t wait till next camp! Tara
My favourite bit was
when we went out to sea on Logan's boat.
I went out with Em-ma, Holley and Zoe.
Zoe was the only one
in our boat that caught a blue cod, but
it was too small so we let it go.
Lily W
I made a spectacular den for my Teddy.
Paris, Bella and I came second in the orient-eering and got all the pictures right.
I went in a yacht with Trey. I used the rud-der to steer, it was freaky. I was worried it
would flip. Trey kept pulling the rope tight
so it would go faster. Lola
We went sailing and I was a Pro. I
went sailing in Renfords Boat and I was freaked out because Renford
tightened the rope and we sped along. We did a boom snap where we duck
under as the boom flies over us.
Emma
Sailing was awesome because when the wind picked
up we moved quite fast. Sometimes the boom would hit me in the head when I turned too quickly.

Camp Tukurua—Room Five Renford’s class had an awesome camp at the Golden Bay Holiday Park at Tukurua this week. The children were able to experience yachting, kayaking, orienteering, bush walks, fishing, cooperative games as well as
making their own activities in their spare time. The children were a pleasure to take away with lots of positive comments from a number of the elderly campers at the
camp.
Once again our parent support was fantastic and we thank you for help in the general organization of the camp but especially for your interaction with the children during all the activities and also initiating activities for the children.
Golden Bay Schools’ Swimming Sports Congratulations to all our entrants at the Golden Bay Schools’ Swimming Sports last Friday. We entered a large team of swimmers with all of them completing their events well. The award for resili-ence goes to Emily C who tripped over a tog bag cord on the way to the bus and took a bad fall grazing both knees, an elbow and cutting her toe. While very sore and stiff she was determined to take part and completed her events.
