• Dictionary Project:– Get a dictionary in the hands of every third

grader– Build a relationship with local schools– Expand awareness of Rotary– Support literacy– We need help:

• Champion and captains to order, organize, distribute

• Funds for dictionaries, pledges by school

• Jabulani Dinner Event, October 7th

– Purpose: To fund projects managed by our sister club in Westville, South Africa

– Cost $150 per person, limit 45 guests– Dinner by Executive Chef Brett Corrieri– Wine by Total Beverages– We need help:

• Volunteers for Set Up, Service, Clean Up• Sponsors? Powells, Johnsons, Bishops, Ford?

Fun and Future Funding• Purposes:

– To help build the Donor Advised fund, self sustaining endowment

– Replace the “cash calls” for:• Dictionary Project• Holloway High School Graduation Help• Good Shepherd’s Home Christmas Gifts• Additional Special Gifts funding

– Provide a family event where we can have fun and increase our club’s visibility

Why a Barbecue Event?• We have members with expertise and

interest:– Dr. George Smith organized the Heritage

Barbecue Festival, made it a big success• Also has the equipment for smoking huge quantities

– We have six sanctioned Kansas City judges– We hope for help from Mr. Jim Crumley

• The area has no barbecue event anymore• Face it, barbecue is fun

Do we do it?

• Tentatively, we planned Nov. 2&3• We need to know:

– Will you support the event?– How will you support the event? – What should we call it?

• Best name as judged by the committee wins a prize

– If we get enough pledges of support, we will pursue making this the best barbecue competition in town!
