 Australian beliefs

The modern culture of Australia is a Western culture and draws from many sources, primarily from the Anglo-Celtic cultures, but also from indigenous Australians, themulti-ethnic immigration associated with the Australian gold rushes of the 1850s, andpost-World War II immigrants from all over the world.

Mainstream Australian culture has been strongly influenced by British culture andEuropean culture, and more recently the culture of the United States of America.

T

here are, however, distinctive influences from the Australian natural environment, the country's settler history, indigenous Australians, geographical isolation from other Western nations and proximity to Asia.

Australia's cities are melting pots of different cultures and the influence of the longer-established southern European communities in particular has been pervasive.

The culture of modern Indigenous Australians is rich and diverse, although severelyimpacted by European colonisation.

Hugh Jackman Lyrics - I Still Call Australia Home Lyrics

Artist: Hugh Jackman LyricsSong: I Still Call Australia Home Lyrics

I've been to cities that never close downFrom New York to Rio and old London townBut no matter how farOr how wide I roamI still call Australia home

I'm always travelin'And I love bein' freeSo I keep leavin' the sun and the seaBut my heart lies waiting over the foamI still call Australia home

All the sons and daughters spinning 'round the worldAway from their families and friendsAh, but as the world gets older and colderIt's good to know where your journey ends

And someday we'll all be together once moreWhen all the ships come back to the shoreThen I realize something I've always knownI still call Australia home

No matter how farOr how wide I roamI still call Australia home
