Reading

Harcourt Trophies is the core for Kyrene’s reading program.

Includes daily practice of phonics and direct reading instruction.

Guided reading instruction that meet the needs of each students reading level.

Individualized reading books Chapter books

Skills taught: Phonics Comprehension Retelling Summarizing Vocabulary Phonemic awareness

Language Arts: Writing Students will create, research, write, conference,

share and publish their writing. Six traits; organize, word choice, ideas, fluency,

voice and conventions. Writing genres for third grade are friendly letter,

personal narrative and creative story. Grammar, Spelling

Spelling

Weekly spelling tests on Friday. Spelling words written in agenda on Mondays. Responsible for studying words at home throughout

the week. Words will be given based on the students needs. Vocabulary, invest in a children’s dictionary. Spelling words are from our reading program the

Harcourt Trophies.

Math

Investigations—Manipulative Math Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley Leveled Practice (Foresman/Wesley) Mountain Math Concepts taught in multiple ways Hands-on activities (Investigations) Homework-daily and will be what was taught in

class that day. Practice math facts at home (x, /, +, -).

*Daily homework given (M-Th) 4 days a week,and will be due the following day. Thursday’s homework is to study for test (s) on Friday.*Students will be expected to read 20 minutes or more each evening. Then have parents sign the agenda that your child read.*Family Journal *Monthly Book Reports
