Research and Solutions to obesity
WHAT IS OBESITYObesity: abnormal or excessive fat accumulation. Data respond that in 2008 there were 1.4 billion
adults , from ages 20 and older are overweight .In 2010 an average of 40 million children were
overweight at the age of 5 and under.Women are more obesity than Men
In Chicago the people that are obesity are 36% black,26% Hispanic, & 21% white
In the US 65.6% white, 15.6 Hispanic, 12.8% black

SOLUTION 1School Community GardenWe will work with the principal, sponsors,
gardeners, chefs (to help cook the food they’ve grown), nutritionist
This project will impact the school because students will have access to healthy, fresh food choices right outside their school!
SOLUTION 1 CONT.The youth wellness team will help implement
the idea by checking up on the school, working with the teens to plant the food, giving them information about obesity to make them want to stay healthy
The YWT is addressing environmental , mental, social, and physical wellness
SOLUTION 2Re-modify the LunchroomsWe will work with Chartwells, The CPS
Board, Parents, community leaders, and staffThis will improve the wellness of the school
by providing fresh and healthier food varieties
SOLUTION 3Purchase better gym equipment by fundraising
-Run 2k-3k-Dance-Basketball tournament-Concert/Talent Show-Taste of Wellness School
We will work with coaches, nutritionist, community leaders, parents, and sponsors within the school
This will improve the school by getting active physically, aware of their health, make wiser choices, and to be more aware of resources
SOLUTION 3 CONT.We will monitor the implementation of this by
annual fundraising, open gym, demonstrating how each equipment is used
We are addressing social, physical, and mental wellness
