My year as president of the Minnesota Park and Sports Turf Managers Association isnearing an end. As I look back, serving on the MPSTMA Board of Directors in general, and as its president in particular, was a very rewarding experience. Having input and

seeing how events are put together gave me a newperspective of the association. MPSTMA has verydedicated individuals who look out for the bestinterests of association members. I recommendserving on the Board to all members. We have anew election taking place on Jan. 15 and no matterthe outcome, we are going to have an outstandinggroup guiding the way for 2015.

Next in line as MPSTMA President is BenBoeding, CSFM, from the City of Eagan. Over the past couple years, Boeding hasshowed he is more than capable of handling the duties of president by participating inour events, attending the National STMA convention and doing hands-on work at ourCommunity Service Project. Make sure you cast your vote and also attend the AnnualMeeting at 10:45 a.m., Thurs., Jan. 15 in Room 208AB.

The Northern Green Expo takes place from Jan. 14-16. If you have not madethe time to attend in the past, I recommend doing so this year. Besides the terrific educa-tional opportunities, it is a fun time to network with friends and peers in the variousgreen industry associations.

The MTGF Super Tuesday seminar, BEE AWARE: The Importance ofPollinators in the Landscape, takes place on Jan. 13. There is still time to registerfor this event and for the Northern Green Expo.

In closing, I want to thank the membership for the confidence in trusting me as yourpresident. I will continue to serve on the MPSTMA Board as Past President. Our associa-tion is small enough that every voice can be heard. We’d like your input on any improve-ments that can be made that would improve the quality of our association.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Wallin

President

Minnesota Park and Sports Turf Managers Association

! I'm not saying any thing new, when I say finally winter season could be over. It's time to change gears and think about our sports fields and parks and not about plowing our parking lots, shoveling side walks, and where are we going to put the next Snow-naumi? Break out the grills, picnic tables, string lines and painters--the season has begun. It's time to put our education and skills to the test. !! ! To recap what has been happening in MPSTMA, we had a great turnout for the spring workshop and the board would like to thank everyone who attended. I would like to personally like to thank the committee members that worked hard to put this event on. Our speakers Dick Erickson spoke about the good old days at The Met; Ben Boeding newly named CSFM filled us in on taking the steps in obtaining certification; Patrick D. McGuiness, Attorney, Minneapolis, gave a presentation on liability in or on our facilities; and we looked into bridging the generation gap with Tim VanLoo of Iowa State University.!!! The host site, University of Northwestern, is wonderful facility. We had some fantastic fall-off-the-bone ribs and some great conversation at the networking picnic held at the newly renovated North Side Park in St. Louis Park. Rick Beane and his crew put on a great picnic right down to the weather!!!! Enjoy the summer!!!

! Benjamin Wallin, President MPSTMA!!

Our new KORO TOPMAKER removes by stripping the faceof the field sod or existing turf. The sod or turf is thenloaded into a truck and hauled off-site. This process is better for a field’s future when making corrections versusroto-tilling existing sod or turf back into the ground.
