motion

Motion: definitionmotion is a change in position of an

object with respect to time. Motion is typically described in terms of displacement, distance (scalar), velocity, acceleration, time and speed.

Types of motionTypes of motion

translatory motion

ROTATORY MOTION

OSCILLATORY MOTION

VIBRATORY MOTION

PERIODIC MOTION

NON-PERIODIC MOTION

ROLLING MOTION

RANDOM MOTION

MULTIPLE MOTION

RECTILINEAR MOTION

CURVILINEAR MOTION

Uniform motion

Non-uniform motion

TRANSLATORY motionWhen an object moves in such a way that every

point of the object moves the same distance in the same time, then the object is said to be in translatory motion.

There are two types of translatory motion –Rectilinear motion curvilinear motion

When an object moves WHEN AN OBJECT MOVES in a straight line. ALONG A CURVED PATH.

ROTATORY MOTIONWHEN EVERY POINT ON A MOVING OBJECT

MOVES AROUND A CENTRE OR AXIS OF ROTATION, IT IS SAID TO BE IN ROTATORY MOTION.

OSCILLATORY MOTIONTHE TO ANDFROM MOTION OF AN OBJECT

ABOUT A FIXED POINT IS CALLED OSCILLATORY MOTION.

Vibratory motionWhen a part of an object moves to and fro

about its fixed position, it is said to be in vibratory motion.

Random motionIf an object keeps on changing its motion from

one type into another, it is said to be in random motion.

Multiple motionWhen an object possesses more than one

motion at the same time, it is said to be in multiple motion.

Periodic motionWhen an object repeats its motion after a

fixed interval of time, is said to be in a periodic motion.

non-periodic motionWhen an object does not repeat its motion

after a fixed interval of time, it is said to be in non periodic motion.

Rolling motionif an object undergoes translatory as well as

rotatory motion, it is said to be in rolling motion.

Uniform motionIf an object covers equal distances in equal

intervals of time, it is said to be in uniform motion.

Non-uniform motionIf an object covers equal distances in unequal

intervals of time, it is said to be in non-uniform motion.

speed

Speed : definition

Average speedaverage speed is defined as the total distance covered over the time interval. For example, if a distance of 80 kilometres is driven in 1 hour, the average speed is 80 kilometres per hour.

velocity

Velocity : definitionVelocity is a physical vector quantity; both

magnitude and direction are needed to define it.
