GLOBAL WATER AID PROGRAMME: MISSION 2020
Mission 2020 has been set up to reduce mortality and morbidity
by providing safe drinking water to a population of 630,000 in the
state of Jammu & Kashmir by 2020
Global Water Aid Programme: Mission 2020 has been launched to supply safe water in Kashmir & Jammu by supplying water filters in community centers, delivering 16,000 litres of safe water via tankers, and installing wells which can cater a full village of 100 families.
Mother Helpage started a Global Water Aid Programme in 2005, when access and quality of safe drinking water was inadequate in Africa and India. Following the 2014 floods in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, and a subsequent assessment of needs study, it was revealed that the floods had ruined food stored for the winter, drowned families livestock, ruined crops and landslides meant entire
communities could no longer live in their homes and had become isolated. This made them unable to access food or safe water making them vulnerable to disease, poverty and starvation.
Mother Helpage recently launched Mission 2020 in response to the above crisis. We are the only organisation who have support from the government of Jammu and Kashmir enabling us to push through the regulations process and achieving our goals quickly. Being the only international charity working in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, communities in the region rely on us to provide safe water and sanitation.

A child under the age of 5 dies about every 90 seconds as a result of diarrhoea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and unsafe hygiene practices.
Safe water contributes to the development of a community by improving agriculture, therefore economic stability.
70% of the earth is water - but less than 1% is drinkable.
Sadly, 9 million people will die this year from lack of access to clean water
Women and children who mostly bear the burden of water collection and usually in unsafe environments become vulnerable to sexual assaults and accidents.
Carrying water may cause skeletal deformation and accelerate the deterioration of joints.
Unsafe water causes poor health and illness. Needy people tend to live on what they earn on a daily basis and have no cash reserves to pay for a sudden illness. The loss of income and the inability to pay for the cost of treatment can push a family further into poverty and debt, thereby perpetuating the cycle of poverty.
An important reason why girls drop out of school in developing countries - mainly in Africa and Asia - is because of lack of sanitation facilities.
Studies show that school attendance by girls increases when separate latrines for girls and boys are installed.
In a school in Bangladesh, where UNICEF began promoting separate facilities in 1992, girls school attendance has risen by an average of 11% a year.

Mission 2020 has been set up to reduce mortality and morbidity by providing 6,300,000 litres of safe drinking
water per day to the target population of 630,000 in the state of Jammu & Kashmir by 2020. Each person in the area will have a daily access to approximately 10 litres of
safe water per day as per the WHO guidelines.
This goal fulfills a criteria set by MDG and WHO for the reduction of mortality and morbidity by the provision of safe water to theneedy communities.
This programme will improve development of the region by improving agriculture.
Overall contributing towards making the world a better place to live
It will contribute towards economic stability in the region.
Safe water means more children can receive an education thereby helping to improve the literacy rate of children and vulnerable groups which reduces crime.
Access to safe water and sanitation Is the building block upon which to develop a safer, healthy and fit community.
