Powder-Compact Assembly LineLaverana chooses Schubert-Cosmetics to assemble its powder-compacts

Natural cosmetics are becom-

ing increasingly successful

and have gone from being a

niche product to an established mar-

ket driver. It was with this in mind

that the German company Laverana

turned to Schubert to automate the

previously manual packaging pro-

cess for its lavera brand of powder,

rouge and eyeshadow.

Schubert’s technically ambitious

solution currently covers 13 different

formats. Several F4 robots, equipped

with special opening, filling and clos-

ing tools, as well as the high perfor-

mance Schubert image processing

system, are used to place one to four

powder pucks into compacts in dif-

ferent formations depending on the

format. A sensor determines if the

glue for fixing the powders inside the

compact has been applied properly.

Before closing, the filled compacts get

checked for their height by a 3D scan-

ner that all the powders have been

placed correctly inside the cavities.

Besides differing closures and the

sensitive pressed or baked powders,

precision was another concern: the

powders have minimal tolerance in

the compact cavities and must fit

near to perfect.

One of the highlights of this machine

is the transportation of the compacts

through the entire line, just on a belt,

completely without format parts.

Key is the level of flexibility for the different formats of this high-performance assem-
