Moments UpdateW.J. Llope, Rice University
I Analysis Mtg, Purdue, July 2013
I have 4x7 TH2Ds from Xiaofeng Luo - net-p dE/dx, 0.4<PT<0.8, |y|<0.5, refmult3corrDaniel McDonald - net-p,-q,-K TOF, wider PT ranges, |h|<0.5, refmult2corr
These TH2Ds are Nnet, Ntot, Npos, Nneg vs. refmultXcorrFilled after all cuts, run and event QA, etc.
These files allow independent calculation of all observables (μ, σ2, Ss, Ks2,…) including CBW & efficiency corrections
Also allows the calculation of all “baselines” – Poisson, (N)BD, Sampled Singles

McDonald’s AGS/RHIC User’s meeting poster (net-K and net-q)http://www.star.bnl.gov/protected/bulkcorr/dmac/AGSposter_dmcdonaldv2.pdf
The main points of this work will be presented in a plenary session tomorrow…
Basic summary…My independent code reproduces the results in the net-p paper, and the net-K,-q
(QM2012)including the efficiency-corrected net-p results
“Sampled Singles” is a data-driven baseline that breaks any existing intra-event correlations
The sampled singles approach reproduces the net-p experimental results “exactly”Measured moments products also precisely reproduced by independent random variable
cumulant arithmetic.Intra-event correlations, if they exist, have no impact on the measured net-p moments
Measured net-p Ks2 values dominated by proton C4

Sampling != Data
Sampling generally reproduces data for all groups, centralities, and energiesexcept net-charge, 62.4 & 200 GeV, more central than ~40-50%
Same events!
Clearly there is an important intra-event correlation at work here. Need to understand

Simulations – Introduction…
Run UrQMD at 7 root-s values and for 0 ≤ b ≤ 12.52 fm
For each event, save:b (fm), refmult, refmult2, refmult3, and 4x6 multiplicities
The 4x6 multiplicities are 4 “conditions” and 6 particles (π±, K±, p, pbar)…conditions
1: perfect detection of all participants & produced particles (ncoll[i]>0)2: perfect detector and |η|<0.53: TPC efficiency, 0.4<PT<0.8, |y|<0.54: TPC efficiency, wider P limits appropriate for TOF PID, |η|<0.5
Not trying to exactly reproduce the measured results, but trying to- isolate centrality resn effects by comparing b cuts to refmultX cuts for one condition- isolate acceptance effects by comparing conditions for one centrality selection
For TPC efficiencies, presently using Evan’s parameterizations…BTW, I now have all the BES p,K,p embedding minimc’s and am analyzing these
Also, TOF match efficiencies from my p,pbar,A,Abar analyses recently updated.

Simulations – Centrality…
Gate refmultX distributions into standard STAR windows… 70-80%, …, 10-20%, 5-10%, 0-5%
For centrality from the impact parameter, define xb=(b/bmax)2 and use bmax = 14 fm.
0.0<b<3.13 fm x = 0- 5% 3.13<b<4.42 fm x = 5-10%
… 10.84<b<12.52 fm x = 60-80%

Once the event centrality is set using cuts on refmultX or geometrical xb, then plot the results as a function of Npart from the exp. data…
Allows direct comparisons of resultsfollowing rmX-based and b-based centrality cuts…
