INTRODUCTION

• Replication process: duplication of DNA.

• Replication mistakes can result in diseases, thats why sciencists are investigating

SCIENTISTS IDENTIFY MOLECULAR SWITCH THAT REGULATES DNA REPLICATION AND

TRANSCRIPTION

• Mitochondria contributes with a small number of genes essential for celular respiration and energy generation.

•Transcription and replication colliding was prevented by the scientists.

REPLICATION AND TRANSCRIPTION

• The key player that effectively switches on or off trasncription or replication is TEFM (mitochondrial transcription elongation factor)

• TEFM also has an unexpected anti-termination activity.

REPLICATION AND TRANSCRIPTION

OBSERVATION

• I think that all this progess might be good because of the medical utilities, but we should know how to use them correctly. With mitocondrial DNA, if we are able to prevent colliding in those processes they have done a great job until now, but we should still investigate

TRACKING DNA HELPS SCIENTISTS TRACE ORIGINS OF GENETIC ERRORS

TRACKING DNA HELPS SCIENTISTS TRACE ORIGINS OF GENETIC ERRORS

• They looked out the way mutations can be introduced in our DNA

• Some of the genetic switches that control when genes are activated are likely to be hotspots for DNA flaws, or mutations, to develop.

TRACKING DNA HELPS SCIENTISTS TRACE ORIGINS OF GENETIC ERRORS

• Polymerases are involved in this replication process .

• A small but significant fraction of the finished DNA is left-over scaffold.

TRACKING DNA HELPS SCIENTISTS TRACE ORIGINS OF GENETIC ERRORS

• These scaffold sections, and the mistakes they contain, become trapped in the DNA.

• This tends to occur at points in the important regulatory switches.

• These sites are therefore more likely than other regions to have trapped scaffold DNA and its associated errors.

OBSERVATION

• In this study they showed someting positive in my opinión, because of they are trying to look the way to cure genetic diseases. If they find a mutation that allows our body to increase its effectivity they could use it to privilege us.

MEDICAL UTILITY

MEDICAL UTILITY

• Therapies for cancer.• Developmental processes related to

fertility and aging.• TEFM prevents from mutation, controls transcription

and replication. POTENCIAL TARGET FOR NEW DRUG THERAPIES.

TRACKING DNA HELPS SCIENTISTS TRACE ORIGINS OF GENETIC ERRORS

• Hunt for disease causing mutations, specially interpret regions of the genome that do not code por proteins.
