Big Idea

Patterns are used in everyday life. An understanding of patterns enables

problem-solving success in a number of situations involving predictions. For

example, weather predictions are based on patterns.

Guiding Questions:

• What is the rule governing shifts between successive terms?

• How would you continue number patterns?

• Can you use number patterns to complete a T-Chart?

How do I recognizethe pattern?

• First, look at the numbers next to each other.

• Next, ask, “What am I doing to the 1st number to get the next number? This is the RULE of the pattern.

• Finally, continue the pattern using the rule.
