MISSION SUNDAY Gloria Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace
to people of good will. We praise you, we bless
you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you
thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly
King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus
Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of
God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins
of the world, have mercy on us; you take away
the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you
are seated at the right hand of the Father, have
mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most
High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the
glory of God the Father.
Amen.
Collect Almighty ever -living God ,
grant that we may always conform our will to yours
And serve your majesty in sincerity of heart.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.
First Reading (EX 17:8-13)
A reading from the book of Exodus
The Amalekites came and attacked Israel at
Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, „Pick out men for
yourself, and tomorrow morning march out to en-
gage Amalek. I, meanwhile, will stand on the hill-
top, the staff of God in my hand,‟ Joshua did as
Moses told him and marched out to engage
Amalek, while Moses and Aaron and Hur went up
to the top of the hill. As long as Moses kept his
arms raised, Israel had the advantage; when he let
his arms fall, the advantage went to Amalek. But
Moses‟ arms grew heavy, so they took a stone and
put it under him and on this he sat, Aaron and Hur
supporting his arms, one on one side, one on the
other; and his arms remained firm until sunset.
With the edge of the sword Joshua cut down
Amalek and his people.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Responsorial psalm R: Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains:
from where shall my come my help?
My help shall come from the Lord
who made heaven and earth. (R.)
May he never allow you to stumble!
Let him sleep not, your guard.
No, he sleeps not nor slumbers,
Israel‟s guard. (R.)
The Lord is your guard and your shade;
at your right hand side he stands.
By day the sun shall not smite you
nor the moon in the night. (R.)
The Lord will guard you from evil,
he will guard your soul.
The Lord will guard your going and coming
both now and for ever. (R)
Second Reading (2 tm 3:14-4:2)
A reading from the second letter of St Paul to
Timothy.
You must keep to what you have been taught and
know to be true; remember who your teachers
were, and how, ever since you were a child, you
have known the holy scriptures– from these you
can learn the wisdom that leads to salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is in-
spired by God and can profitably be used for
teaching, for refuting error, for guiding peoples
lives and teaching them to be holy. This is how the
man who is dedicated to God becomes fully
equipped and ready for any good work.
Before God and before Christ Jesus who is to be
the judge of the living and the dead, I put this duty
to you, in the name of his Appearing and of his
kingdom: proclaim the message and, welcome or
unwelcome, insist on it. Refute falsehood, correct
error, call to obedience-but do all with patience and
with the intention of teaching.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia.
May the father of our Lord Jesus Christ
enlighten the eyes of your mind,
so that we can see what hope his call holds for
us.
Alleluia.
Gospel A reading from the holy Gospel according to
Luke
Jesus told his disciples a parable about the need to
pray continually and never lose heart. ‟There was a
judge in a certain town‟ he said‟ who had neither
fear of God nor respect for man. In the same town
there was a widow who kept on coming to him
saying,” I want justice from you against my en-
emy!” For a long time he refused, but at last he
said to himself, “ Maybe I have neither fear of God
nor respect for man, but since she keeps pestering
me I must give this widow her just rights, or she will
persist in coming and worry me to death.” „
And the Lord said‟ you notice what the unjust has
to say?. Now will not God see justice done to his
chosen who cry to him day and night even when
he delays to help them?. I promise you, he will see
justice done to them, and done speedily. But when
the Son of Man comes, will he find any faith on
earth ?.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Profession of Faith I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible
and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus
Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of
the Father before all ages. God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the
Father; through him all things were made. For
us and for our salvation he came down from
heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of
the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake
he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suf-
fered death and was buried, and rose again on
the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the
right hand of the Father. He will come again in
glory to judge the living and the dead and his
kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the
Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets. I believe
in one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. I
confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of
the dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen
Hymns
Though we are many
Though we are many, we are one body,
we who come to share this living bread;
Cup of salvation, shared among all
Nations, nourishing us now and evermore.
We gather in this place
round the table of the Lord.
Christ‟s presence is revealed
in our communion and his Living Word.
Hail Queen of heaven
Hail, Queen of heaven, the ocean star,
Guide of the wanderer here below,
Thrown on life's surge, we claim thy care,
Save us from peril and from woe.
Mother of Christ, Star of the sea
Pray for the wanderer, pray for me.
O gentle, chaste, and spotless Maid,
We sinners make our prayers to thee;
Remind thy Son that He has paid
The price of our iniquity.
Virgin most pure, O star of the sea,
Pray for the sinner, pray for me.
You satisfy the hungry heart
You satisfy the hungry heart
with gift of finest wheat,
come give to us o saving Lord,
the bread of life to eat.
As when the shepherd calls his sheep,
they know and heed his voice;
so when You call your family Lord,
we follow and rejoice.
With joyful lips we sing to You, our praise and gratitude,
that You should count us worthy Lord, to share this heavenly food.

Nenagh Parish News 20th October 2019
October 2019: Extraordinary Month of Mission
Prayer Heavenly Father,
when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ rose from the dead,
He commissioned his followers to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’
and you remind us that through our Baptism we are made sharers in the mission of the church.
Empower us by the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to be courageous and zealous in bearing witness to the
Gospel, so that the mission Entrusted to the Church, which is still very far from completion,
may find new expressions that bring life and light to the world
Help us make it possible for all peoples
to experience the saving love and mercy of Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.
World Mission Sunday Together we are mission
Dear Friends, This year’s World Mission Sunday them ‘Together We Are Mission’, Is a message for everyone. As Pope Francis said in his World Mission Sunday Message, ‘I am a mission, always; you are a mission, always; every baptised man and woman is a mission.’ This goes to the heart of our baptismal call. It also challenges the idea that mission work is solely done by missionaries, by asking people to consider the part their own mission-ary hearts can play in changing the lives of others.
During this Extraordinary Month of Mission, World Mission Sunday will take place over the weekend of Sunday 20th October. Since its announcement in1926 by Pope Pius XI, the entire global Church comes to-gether during this time to support mission. Our church is a global community. We depend on one another, on our shared prayer, solidarity and generosity. This spe-cial papal celebration recognises this by calling every parish, in every corner of the world, to stand together and share what they can-no matter how little. Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly
