#1 Art Journaling

!   Students will come in and make masterpieces of art that express their thoughts and feelings for the day or in response to a provided prompt.

#2 STEM - Mars Robotics Lab / Astronomy featuring Exoplanet Art Project

!   Space Foundation Headquarters CS

!   Day 1: Robotics mission. Students will engineer/build rovers (and the routes of the rovers) to travel around Mars.

!   Day 2: Students will explore the solar system. After our time with the Science on a Sphere (SOS), students will design their own planet based on the information they learned at SOS. The students will then see their planets on display in the SOS.

#3 Beauty School Drop-out

!   Students who choose to participate in this mini-course will be taking part in fun beauty activities and techniques. They will be painting their fingernails, doing their hair, designing clothes, and exploring what beauty is.

# 4 Leisure Games

!   Students will be playing a variety of leisure games both common (ping pong, badminton, etc.) and uncommon (nok hockey, corn hole, etc.). Students will be introduced to different rules for each game and different strategies needed in order to be successful. Students will work on sportsmanship.

#5 Shabby Chic Christmas

!   Students will spend one day creating at least six, shabby chic style Christmas decorations. Students can choose to give these as Christmas gifts or keep for themselves.

!   Students will have access to the Sky Zone facility for 3 and a half hours of jumpapoolza fun: including trampoline jumping, foam zone and ultimate dodge ball. We will be at the facility for 2 hours, break for lunch and then return for another hour and a half.

#7 So You Wanna Learn To Dance?!?

!   Students will learn the basics of various dancing. From hip hop, ballroom, tap, musical theater, jazz, and ballet. Students will learn technical terms, choreography to various dances, and be provided with the opportunity to create their own dance masterpiece.

!   This one-day course is for students who love The Hunger Games Trilogy! We will read some excerpts from all three books, view portions of each of the first two movies and discuss similarities and differences between the books and movies, as well as ideas that inspired Suzanne Collins in her creation of this series, brainstorm potential new districts, play a Hunger Games board game, and create some Panem-inspired craft items.

#11 Movie History - How Hollywood got to where it is today

!   Students will be learning about the development of the movie industry from the beginning to the present. We will watch movies from different time periods and discuss the progression of the movie industry over time.

!   Students will learn the rules and strategy of Ultimate Frisbee. They will also get a chance to learn several types of throws and to practice those throws. Finally, the students will be able to play 3 different types of Ultimate Frisbee games. Lunch will be BYOL. 30 students max per day.

!   Students who participate in this mini course will learn about several types of mosaic designs such as cultural mosaics found in Spain that use broken plates, glass and ceramic tiles to create masterpieces, and contemporary street artists who create mosaics in the shape of common video game characters on the sides of buildings. Each student will get to choose which style they want to use to create their own mosaic design.

#23 Ghost Town Museum

!   We will visit the Ghost Town Museum in Colorado Springs, explore the museum, and if the weather permits we will pan for gold. We will have lunch at the picnic tables outside of the museum. When we return to school, we will discuss what we found out and possibly watch a documentary about Colorado Ghost Towns.

#24 Everything Birds

!   Students will learn to sand, nail and create a birdhouse. This workshop will teach students do-it-yourself skills and tool safety and at the same time they help to instill a sense of accomplishment. Simple enough for any middle school student to complete, this pre-cut wooden birdhouse kit encourages creativity and a sense of accomplishment. Parts are made of wood, and can be used as is, or finished with your own paint, stickers or stamps. All materials will be provided.

They will then be divided into teams and given a basket of supplies of which to create cupcakes with decoration and then a display for the cupcakes. The teams will have a specific time limit and will then have their cupcakes judged at the end.

We will spend part of the day learning make-up techniques and applying them to a partner. We will work with beauty make-up as well as applying make-up

#30 Hike through Palmer Park

!   Students will test their limits as they trek 3-5 miles around and across the yucca flats mesa of Palmer Park while exploring eroded sedimentary geological formations and beautiful vistas of Colorado Springs from an urban wilderness environment, set aside as open space a century ago by city founder, General Palmer.

#34 Everything Horses

!   Students will create a reading light with a mason jar and horse decorations and will have time to read horse books and magazines snuggled up with a pillow from home. Later, students will learn how to draw horses and create sketches, write poems about horses (prize for winner), paint a horse sculpture, and watch a movie about horses. It's literally a day filled with everything horses!

!   Students will choose between an owl or heart mosaic pattern and use tile pieces to decorate it.

!   Students will choose a picture from google images and make a puzzle from it. They will then take turns putting together each other’s puzzles.

#45 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

!   Christmas is about traditions, and a tradition I have is to create new ornaments for my tree or house each year. This year we will be creating at least 5 Christmas tree ornaments. Three will be crystal ornaments, one beaded snowflake ornament and one fabric ‘quilted’ ornament. While working on these ornaments, we will begin the Christmas season with some holiday treats, music and a movie. **Note: The types of ornaments may change based on the supplies that are available.**
