History• In 1762 and 1763 Catherine the Great

called Germans and others to come and settle on Volga banks. Beginning of 20-th century: 190 settlements with 407500 inhabitants.

• In Soviet years the autonomous republic was established, then abolished in 1941, 367000 Germans were resettled to the east of the country.
