1.0 INTRODUCTIONThe introduction should provide a brief background to the research project, explaining briefly the importance of the research being proposed, current state of the art, highlights the gaps in the existing knowledge and defines the scope of work and conditions in which the project will be executed. A description of expected results should also be provided.
2.0 PROJECT OBJECTIVESThis section should include a clear statement of the objectives of the proposed research project. What are the questions that this proposal addresses? And what are the significance of expected results. Start with a general objective, then provide with two or three specific objectives. You can use part of the material of HW2
3.0 LITERATURE REVIEWThis section should include the background for context and should explain the significance of the research project involved. Details of the state of the art in the research field should be briefly included with references. It should clearly identify the gaps in knowledge that the proposed research will address. You might use the literature review you developed in HW2
4.0 DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED WORKThis should provide sufficient information of the work to be undertaken and describe in details how the research questions raised by this proposal would be tackled. It should outline the general plan of work, including the broad design and methodology that will be adopted, and, where appropriate, provide a clear description of experimental methods and procedures as well as expected outcomes. The content of this section should be structured under the following headings
4.1 Approach, Tasks and Phases
Details of the approach utilized to achieve each objective of the project should be clarified and illustrated (Table 1).

4.2 Research Methodology
This section should explain your methodology to conduct the research and to obtain the stated objectives. It should reflect that the student has good understanding of the problem and of the barriers in the path. It include procedures and techniques to be used with explanation why these are considered the most suitable to the research in question; detailed description of the experiments and measurements; as well as methods to be used in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Typical questions to answer on research methodology include:(a) What are the constraints (if any)? (b) What are the technical challenges and uncertainties? (c) What are the different approaches to this problem? (d) What is your preferred approach and why?
It should explain the facilities to be used. (a) Is all the necessary hardware/software in place? (b) If not, how will it be acquired and how long will it take to put everything in
place? (c) Does it have any resource implication? (This must be prepared in view of the
Budget below.)
4.3 Management PlanIndicate how each project team member will be involved (with durations) in executing specific tasks. (Table 3).

Introduction Problem, Significance, & Purpose of the Study
Presents a significant research problem. Articulates clear, reasonable research questions given the purpose, and methods of the proposed project. The statements are clearly supported from the literature. All elements are mutually supportive. Well defined common interest for both student and faculty supervisor
Identifies a relevant research problem. Research questions are succinctly stated, and supported by and connected to the established literature. Partial match of the p[proposed research to faculty supervisor
Although a research problem is identified, the statement is too broad and the description fails to establish the importance of the problem area. The research questions are ambiguous, or not logically connected to the description of the problem. Connections to the literature are unclear or debatable.
Statement of the problem, significance, purpose, questions/hypotheses, were omitted or inappropriate.
X1.5
Literature Review
Narrative integrates critical and logical details from the peer-reviewed research literature. Each key question is grounded to the literature.
Key project questions were connected to relevant, reliable literature.
Selected literature was not from reliable or up-to-date sources. Literary supports were vague or ambiguous.
The review of literature was missing or consisted of non-research based articles. Propositions were irrelevant, inaccurate, or inappropriate.
X1
Research Objectives
The purpose, questions, and objectives are mutually supportive and coherent. Appropriate specific objectives have been clearly stated.
The research objectives had been identified and described but with no sufficient details. Specific objectives are defined but not clearly
The research objectives are confusing or incomplete given the research questions and problem statement.
The research objectives are not understandable or have not been identified.
X 1.5
