Had most Fun!
I guess first thing I have to say is WOW – How about those ASTROS!! How about the whole World Series.. It was great! I am so proud of them and so glad for our city. To see all of the lines coming around the buildings for days of Academy’s and Dick’s Sports was just amazing! I really like Sports Illustrated prediction in 2014 #LOVESPRINGER I found a short extract from an interesting article I read about what means to be the CEO…I found this passage particularly compelling:“The Five Temptations of a CEO” by Patrick Lencioni. He lists the most common pitfalls faced by leaders. The No. 1 temptation is choosing status over results. Many leaders are more interested in protecting their career status than focusing on company results. Achievement, not ego, should be the driving force. The No. 2 temptation is choosing popularity over accountability. Leaders need to hold them-selves and everyone around them accountable and communicate what is expected of them. If leaders do this successfully, they will berespected.

After more than 40 years in the industry Dinesh Dalal from CB&I retired September 8th. Dinesh was a great contributor to the industry and many of his friends got together and gave him a sendoff. Ron King MC'd the event with many sharing stories and experiences over the years. I know he will be missed and wish him well in the next chapter of his life. I know the grand kids are keeping him plenty busy.

On To Victims of Hurricane Irma - SWICA!As if Hurricane Harvey was not enough to create havoc in
Texas and Louisiana and impact our membership...then
came Irma!!
Irma devastated Puerto Rico...and The El Conquistador
Hotel - home of SWICA’s 60th Anniversary next June 2018.
The Puerto Ricans are diligently getting back on their feet
but it was with heavy heart that the SWICA BOD had to
make a decision to chance the reconstruction and safety
to bring our membership to our conference there in just 6
months. Many things had to be considered. One a deposit
and contractual agreement and the inability to make an
October site visit to set up all the details. It was decided
a win-win for all parties was to transfer the deposit and
move the conference there for 2019 with agreement from
the Waldorf Astoria chain. We wish their speedy recov-
ery.
Convention Chair Daniel King, Bay Insulation and staff
searched for solutions for 2018 and a fitting place for this
memorable event! We decided to stay within the region

permeance detailed in ASTM E96. Aerocel®
ULP® offers moisture resistance performance
better than any vapor retarder on the market,
and a perm rating far lower than all rigid plastic
foams or other elastomeric insulations. Aerocel®
ULP® is a vapor retarder, helping ensure that
the insulation system remains sealed against
moisture. Offering ease of installation, a high
level of energy efficiency, and superior moisture
resistance, Aerocel® ULP® is the ideal choice for
cost-effective installations on all low-temperature
system insulation jobs, especially in high humid-
ity and high temperature climates.
Aerocel® ULP® is 38% more energy efficient than
the next most-moisture-resistant insulation mate-
rial, cellular glass. Less thickness of Aerocel®
ULP® can be used, while delivering the excep-
tional water and water vapor resistance desired
for low temperature insulation systems, deliver-
ing high-level, constant, long-term insulating
efficiency. Aerocel® ULP® does not contribute to
and helps prevent corrosion under insulation, will
not promote metal corrosion, and is not abrasive
to system components.
Aerocel® ULP® is the ideal insulation for all
below-ambient mechanical systems, operating as
low as -320°F, including chilled water, retail food

6 Employee Benefits Trends in 2017Reprint Benefits Pro, September 2017
Employers looking to attract the best new employees need to look closely at their benefits offerings. That’s according to a CBS report that highlights the six trends in benefits that are of the most interest to prospective employees. With millennials having outpaced GenXers as the largest demographic in the workplace, the report says, “it has become abundantly clear over the course of the last half decade that millennials have very different career priorities than their predecessors.” With that in mind, here are six types of benefits employers might want to consider, if they’re not already on offer.Flex hours are high on the list for millennials, who regard life/work balance as very important. In fact, according to a PwC study, it’s more important to them than financial compensation. Flexible schedules provide a way for employers to give that balance to employees, allowing them to work
hours other than 9-to-5, or from home part of the week. As a result, the report says, employees will have better job satisfaction and be more likely to stay.
Workplace wellness programs are another way to provide a perk that pays off for both employer and employee — and not necessarily at a high cost, the report says. Not only do such programs foster a strong sense of team unity that will help drive job satisfaction and productivity, they also cut health care costs.
Continuing education not only gives employees a leg up, but also provides employers with better-trained staff who are able to cope with modern chal-lenges and less likely to jump ship in search of a more

congenial workplace. While the report concedes that most small and midsize businesses don’t have the budget to provide postgrad tuition to employees, that doesn’t mean that companies can’t focus on such investments in language and software certification classes.
Digital health care solutions enable masters of the cyber world in the workforce to reach out to health practitioners via mobile devices and computers, resulting in faster and more person-alized treatment. In addition, the report says, “digital health programs are also incredibly cost effective and are estimated to save billions in medical costs over the next four years.”

ees. Public transportation passes, reimbursing employees for yoga classes and massage ses-sions and providing free lunches or snacks, can give recruiting an edge over companies that do nothing along these lines, the report points out.
Last but not least, there’s a bigger budget of vacation days. Employers may think that’s too expensive, but employee burnout is responsible for 50 percent of employee churn— and the cost of replacing even an entry-level employee can cost a company up to 50 percent of his or her annual salary. The money spent on extra vacation to avoid burnout could be more than offset by the losses of not doing so. Plus, the knowledge that well-rested employees are more productive will also help to counter the down time that might be caused by those additional days off.www.benefitspro.com

Combat the risk of Corrosion Under Insulation
CUI is a major issue in the industry. It leads to higher maintenance costs and can cause pipe leaks or even ruptures. According to NACE*, water-leachable salt, water retention, permeability and wettability all play a major role in mitigating the risk of CUI.
Our next generation ProRox mandrel wound stone wool pipe sections with WR-Tech (Water Repellency Technology) get to grips with CUI. They absorb less water, dry faster, are more durable and have a very low water-leachable salt content. Minimising the risk of corrosion under insulation.

Coming in at No. 3 is choosing certainty over clarity. Leaders don’t have the luxury of waiting until they are absolutely certain before making a decision. There’s nothing wrong with saying, “I was wrong.” Clarity is usually more important than accuracy.
Choosing harmony over conflict is temptation No. 4. Most people don’t want to rock the boat, so they seek harmony. However, establishing productive conflict is important, and that usually only happens in passionate conversations where people challenge each other.
Finally, the No. 5 temptation is choosing in-vulnerability over trust. T-R-U-S-T is the most important five-letter word in business. Without trust, you have nothing. And to trust your em-ployees, you must put your careers in the hands of others and be vulnerable. I think we can all relate to this as we find our-selves spending most of our time at work! I know all of you wanted to go to Puerto Rico this year and we still will, we have just got delayed a year…lol We are very excited for you all to join us in Irving, Texas at the Four Seasons Resort in June for our 60th Annual Conference. See you all Soon!

Do I Need Business Interruption Insurance?October, 2017 Insurance Information Institute
Business interruption insurance can be as vital to your survival as a business as fire insurance. Most people would never consider opening a business without buying insurance to cover damage due to fire and windstorms. But too many small business owners fail to think about how they would manage if a fire or other disas-ter damaged their business premises so that they were temporarily unusable. Business interrup-tion coverage is not sold separately. It is added to a property insurance policy or included in a package policy.(Continues Page 24)

A business that has to close down completely while the premises are being repaired may lose out to competitors. A quick resumption of business after a disaster is essential.Business interruption insurance compensates you for lost income if your company has to vacate the premises due to disaster-related damage that is covered under your property insurance policy, such as a fire. Business interruption insurance covers the revenue you would have earned, based on your financial records, had the disaster not occurred. The policy also covers operating expenses, like electric-ity, that continue even though business activities have come to a temporary halt.Make sure the policy limits are sufficient to cover your company for more than a few days. After a major disaster, it can take more time than many people anticipate to get the business back on track.
There is generally a 48-hour waiting period before business interruption coverage kicks in.The price of the policy is related to the risk of a fire or other disaster damaging your premises. All other things being equal, the price would probably be higher for a restaurant than a real estate agency, for example, because of the greater risk of fire. Also, a real estate agency can more easily operate out of another location.Extra expense insuranceExtra expense insurance reimburses your company for a reasonable sum of money that it spends, over and above normal operating expenses, to avoid having to shut down during the restoration period. Usually, extra expenses will be paid if they help to decrease business interruption costs. In some in-stances, extra expense insurance alone may provide sufficient coverage, without the purchase of business interruption insurance.

SWICA Budget NotesSo we start of with a crazy turn of events having to cancel our Puerto Rico venue for our 6oth Anniversary Conference. We will have a com-memorative book for the conference program which will contain the entire history of SWICA from conception in 1958 with Board of Directors and notes of what was happening at the time in our industry to present day. Each page will carry a “Congratulatory ad” or product ad from sponsors 3 5/8” X 3” and we hope all member firms will participate.
We ask that you renew or participate in our website sponsorship. Sponsors have their logos
on the website panel and one can click on their logo and be taken to a logo with description of the product/company and one clicks on that and is taken straight to the company website. So a minimal budget for great response.
We also will be updating our Who’s Who Direc-tory with the 2018-2019 edition. (The Expo is uneven years) Your Ad will run for two years with no additional expense. However we do update the flashdrive prior to major events where we pass out flashdrives like our conference, Expo and golf. These are flat business size flashdrive with 2MB space for you to add your data and carry. The flash drive has our membership data and Mechanical Insulation Video and pertinent
data including the Insulation Calculators. We do ask that you pull up your data and send us any corrections in a timely manner.
We have a bundle opportu-nity to run in all three medias with a discount per the con-tract on next page. We hope you’ll take advantage of this by January 1, 2018 so you can get your ad in the Who’s Who Directory 2018-2019.
Next up our 60th Anniver-sary Conference in Dallas. Please make every effort to attend and include all company representatives as attendees. This is a special event for our industry and
