AFTER EFFECTSIN A FLASH

That “.. in a Flash” joke never gets old, does it?

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

For those of you who are brand new to AE, here’s the quickest intro everhelp you follow the examplesand if you’re an AE person, this will help too, promise

Wednesday, April 28, 2010AE's Project Panel is similar to Flash' Library panel, though a little more in depth

Wednesday, April 28, 2010AE's Composition Panel is similar to the stage.  It's where you see the things you're working on/preview/etc.  More options.  **anything in the workspace outside the Comp window's image area does not render as pixels.  Very different from Flash.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010the composition window also shows a lot more than the stage view

-multiple views at once

- listing of what precomps are in the current comp

- all sorts of stuff at the bottom!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010AE's timline panel is very similar to Flash's timeline, except it has a lot more options.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010Pre-comps in AE are similar to movie clips or graphic clips in Flash.  They are nested timelines, but the amount of control you can have over them with scripting and such is much different.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010Both applications have motion pre-sets and effects.  AE has a whole lot more effects built in (and you can buy plug-ins)  Flash can have a whole lot of effects too, but generally more advanced ones are code-based.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010Flash layers are all pretty much the same - a place to put some kind of object in, AE has different types of layers - video, solids, adjustment layers, text layers....add right click menu screenshot to this one

KEYFRAMES

After Effects

Flash (new)Motion Tween

Wednesday, April 28, 2010If you work mostly with the "old" motion tweens in Flash, Keyframes in AE are very differentIf you work more with the "new" motion tweens in Flash, Keyframes in AE are pretty similar.

Fun Fact:  Keyframe used to be drawn by the lead animator (the major poses) and an assistant would draw the inbetweens.

FLV & F4VMARKERS= CUEPOINTS

.XFL FILESthey have a whole lot going on behind the scenes!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010can only export out of AE and open in FlashFlash cs5 can both open and save .xfl files, but AE can only export theseNOT a way to start a project in one prog and finish it in another NOT a way to convert existing Mograph files

At first it seems kind of frustrating to use them but, knowing the “stages” helps
