Mean The arithmetic average of a data set. One

way to determine the mean is to add all the values in a set of data and divide the sum by the number of values.

Ex: Data: 12, 35, 42, 23, 46. Add all the numbers, and you get 158. Then, you divide by how many numbers are in the set, which is 5, and you get 31.6 as your answer.

Mode The Mode is the number that appears most

often in a given set of data. EX: 1, 9, 8, 10, 4, 10. 10 would be the mode

because it appears most. If you have to numbers that appear most then you find the mean of those 2 or more numbers.

Median The median is the middle number in a given

set of data arranged numerically. The median can also be the average of two middle values. It is also more accurate than the mean if there are outliers in the data set.

 EX: 3, 6, 9, 11, 15, 18, 20. 11 would be the median because it’s in the middle of the data set.

Range Range is the lowest number

subtracted from the highest number in a set of data.

 Ex: 12, 45, 32, 56, 45, 31. You subtract 12 from 56, and your answer is 44.
