To the Brethren of Mt. Zion Lodge,

On May 28 we, as a Nation, will be celebrating Memorial Day.

This is a day in which we pay homage to those solders who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

We should never forget that since 1775 those we honor, many of whom were volunteers, did not think of themselves. Their thoughts were on what they had to do to insure the United States remained free. Thousands, as we know, were brother Masons.

We must never forget that their sacrifices allow us, as Americans, the right to live and speak freely. Many people forget about the freedoms we have — but, worst of all, they forget how many sacrificed everything for those freedoms. Let us never forget.

There are parades and picnics, days off from work and school, and that is what many people think: "a day off."

If you ever want to feel pride, just march in a parade and watch those who remove their hats and salute as the Stars and Stripes pass. Most of those who do were in the military and know the meaning of FREEDOM. On Memorial Day it is our turn to say THANK YOU the those men and women who gave and did not return.

THANK YOU.Fraternally yours,

Stephen J. KedmenecWorshipful Master 2012
