Welcome New Members
The GBCVB celebrated its 19th Annual Tourism Awards and Silent Auction on Tuesday, May 6th at Spectacular Event Center. The night was a big success, and we couldn't be happier with the response from all of those who attended.
This year's award recipients all shared characteristics, which we felt only, added to their deserving of recognition. They all exhibit a humble attitude, incredible work ethic and sincere generosity among other things. Additionally, they all would rather stay "behind the scenes" than to be put on stage in front of the spotlight (and over 200 people).

Bangor Symphony Orchestra Announces its 119th Season
The Bangor Symphony Orchestra announced its 119th season at the group's sold-out season finale on April 13th. Highlights include a Spanish-themed opening concert featuring classical guitarist Ana Vidovic and a weeklong residency and concert with internationally acclaimed violinist Midori.
Music director and conductor Lucas Richman says, "Each concert next season has really been planned as an event unto itself. We're exploring all corners of the repertoire and once again collaborating with incredible guest artists, including Midori, who joins us as part of the Orchestra Residencies Program for a series of educational events in the community before taking the stage with the BSO."
The 5 concert Masterworks season will showcase the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in diverse works by Manuel de Falla, Jean Sibelius, Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Jennifer Higdon alongside favorites by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. In addition, the BSO continues its annual collaboration with the Robinson Ballet to present The Nutcracker in December.
The BSO's 2015 Pops presentation is all about the magic of the movies with Disney in Concert: Tale as Old as Time, featuring four singers and high resolution animated feature film sequences in a program that explores iconic moments, plot twists, and feats of daring heroics from Disney favorites such as Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Tangled, The Lion King and many more.
Season subscriptions are now on sale, with The Nutcracker and Disney in Concert available as add-ons to a subscription. All subscribers save off the price of single tickets for Masterworks concerts, and new subscribers save 50%. Visit bangorsymphony.org or call the Collins Center for the Arts Box Office at (207) 581-1755 to order now.

Bangor Public Library Roof Project Nears Completion
FMI: BangorPublicLibrary.org
As the Bangor Public Library’s copper dome and roof near completion, the Friends of the Library invites the public to an appreciation event on Saturday, May 17th at 10 a.m. at the Library. The replacement and repair of the historic roof was possible by a bond that was passed in June 2013. Members of City Council, the Library Board, the Friends of the Library and appreciative staff will be on hand to celebrate the sparkling dome and an interior without leaks.
“We are all overwhelmed by the craftsmanship of Roof Systems of Maine,” says Barbara McDade, Library Director. “We couldn’t be happier with the project and are appreciative to Bangor, both our Councilors and our neighbors, for helping us get a roof we hope will last for another 100 years.”
The community is invited to join the Friends and the Library in this roof celebration. Remarks will be made by Council Chair Ben Sprague, Bangor Mechanic Association President, Franklin Bragg, II, Library Director Barbara McDade and Friends President Kurt Keef.
Library lovers of all ages are invited to celebrate the new “hat” on the Library with a contest! The most creative hat worn to the appreciation event will win a $10 gift certificate to Gifford’s Ice Cream. There are three divisions – youngster (infant to 12), teen (13 – 19), and adult (20+).
Thank you Bangor for making this project possible! The next phase of the renovation is earmarked to begin this summer. The $9,000,000 “Yes for the Library” campaign included the historic copper dome and roof, and an upgrade to the interior and a new front porch.
For more information, please contact the Library at (207) 947-8336.

Penobscot Theatre Company Announces 2014-2015 Season Penobscot Theatre Company, the nation's most Northeastern year-round, professional theatre, proudly announces its 41st Season. The company, which owns and operates the historic Bangor Opera House, will release subscriptions to the general public on May 2.
"We're throwing open the doors for our most dynamic and inspiring lineup yet!" said Artistic Director Bari Newport, who conceived of the season as an adventurous journey. "From Music City to Mandacrest, from the plains of Kansas to the yellow brick roads of Oz, from Sturgeon Bay to suburbia, and finally to Osage County, Oklahoma, we'll be exploring a rich world of laughter, drama, music and dance."
Penobscot Theatre Company's legion of subscribers has expanded dramatically in recent years, largely driven by the attractive benefits of subscription and the various options now offered, said Newport. "Season subscribers receive discounted tickets, their favorite seats on their favorite nights, flexibility, opportunities to see shows again for free and to bring friends who are new to PTC for free, and advance access to special events and programs. Our new three-show snowbird packages have proven very popular for folks who want to escape the cold winter without missing any great theatre while they're home. By investing in the future of our company, our subscribers essentially serve as producers for the next season, supporting the vision and mission of Penobscot Theatre Company."
Current subscribers have until May 1 to guarantee the same great seats enjoyed this season. New subscriptions go on sale May 2. For more information, please call the Box Office at 207-942-3333 or visit PTC online at www.penobscottheatre.org
