• This presentation is a resource to assist with teaching students to read large numbers by identifying periods an place value.

• Slide #6 can be printed and used in math notebooks.

• There is opportunity to assess student understanding, so make sure students have pencil and paper (or math notebooks) available.

1. Read the numbers before the comma as if you were reading in the one’s period. (Example: 485)

2. Then name the period you are in when you get to the comma.

3. You don’t have to name the ones period. 4. You DON’T say the word AND in these numbers
