Financial Stewardship for September 5 & 6 and September 12 & 13:
Building Fund $ 42,892.04 Offertory $ 25,370.00
Financial Stewardship Today’s second reading warns that a heart
consumed with avarice and envy leads to jealousy, strife, conflicts and disputes. A giving heart, in
contrast, can sing instead with the Psalmist, “Freely will I offer you sacrifice; I will praise your name, O
Lord, for its goodness.”

Thank You!
A huge “thank you” to everyone at Prince of Peace who helped us to host such a fun and memorable parish picnic/middle school blessing event this past weekend. We sincerely thank our many ministry groups, school and parish employees, and all those individuals and families who just said “yes” and showed up ready to work wherever they were needed. Our event coordinators Bridget and Doug Carter and Bette and Vic Graffeo did a splendid job. The list of volunteers is long and spans both our English and Spanish-speaking parish communities. Please know that we appreciate you all.

Stewardship Sundays
Start this Week! We are celebrating our four Stewardship Pillars over four weekends, beginning with Formation this weekend. Each pillar has its own weekend and we will feature it with a special bulletin insert, an information table in the Gathering Space, and three-minute stewardship “conversion of the heart” reflection by a parishioner after Mass. Our Prayer Pillar will be featured September 26/27; Service Pillar on October 3/4; and Hospitality Pillar on October 10/11.
Come meet the ministry leaders from this week’s featured pillar in the Gathering Space and learn more about their work. They will be here after every Mass. All are welcome!
Attention All Volunteers! If you are involved at Prince of Peace in a ministry relating to the youth of the parish (e.g., Sunday School, VBS, HS/MS Youth Group, etc.) then please note the information below. In accordance with the Diocese of Birmingham, it is policy to offer continued Youth Protection Training to all employees and volunteers who have routine contact with children or vulnerable adults. All employees and volunteers MUST BE TRAINED. You have two options to take the classes: The complete schedule of free classes can be found at www.bhmdiocese.org under ‘Child and Youth
Protection Information.’ The next class being taught at POP is September 21, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in Deasy Hall. You may register on the website and take one of the offered classes. A copy of the completion certificate and AS1 form must be returned to the POP Religious Education Office for processing. An online training class is offered for a fee. For information about the process requirements and sign up
instructions please go to www.popcatholic.org and on the Church tab click on ‘Parish Services’, ‘Youth’, ‘On-line Alternative Youth Protection 1’. After completing the online class, a copy of the completion certificate and AS1 Form must be returned to the Religious Education Office for processing.

Religious Education “Catechetical Sunday”
Today marks the beginning of a new Catechetical year. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel.
A Catechist’s Prayer Father of all families, you have called me to serve the family in truth and love as a catechist. May I be faithful to this call, rooted in your Word, and open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May I use these gifts, especially the gifts of faith, hope, and love, to serve the family as a witness to you, who are love and life and the source and destiny of all families. Let your Spirit enlighten my mind and strengthen my heart so that I can be a path of Christ’s love to families, especially those in need, the homebound and aged, the disabled and disheartened. Through the intercession of Mary and Joseph, I pray for the Church, the Bride of Christ, whose mission to build a civilization of love passes through the family. Amen.
We still need 10 teachers for grades K3-1st grade (8:30 and 11:00) and 8 teachers for grades 3-8 (9:40-10:50). Please consider sharing your faith stories with our Parish children. I will help you with all the materials and resources to make you successful. Contact Megan Everett for information, megan.everett@popcatholic.org.

Safety Corner Hoover Policemen will be present during our two largest Masses (8:30 & 11:00). They will direct traffic and watch for any threatening behavior outside. During the summer months, there will be one policeman due to no Religious Education classes. This is another way of keeping our parish safe. Thanks for your support of the Safety Ministry.
Peanut Butter
& Jelly Drive The Catholic Center of Concern is regularly in short supply of peanut butter and jelly. Please donate these as often as you can to the two large boxes in the gathering space.

Stewardship: Parishioners
Answering God’s Call No other event that is held at Prince of Peace exemplifies our Parish slogan of “All Are Welcome” as the recent Parish picnic. The picnic also provided an abundance of opportunities for parishioners to volunteer to make the picnic the success that it was. The response of parishioners to help, from school children to seniors, was outstanding. On behalf of all who attended, we extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for sharing your time and your talent with us! Please submit your stewardship story examples to cathy.yarbrough@popcatholic.org. They may be edited for space consideration.
Casting Lots
for the Seamless Garment “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation”
Pope Francis’ Prayer for Our Earth All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures. You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. Reflection: The universe unfolds in God, who fills it completely. Hence, there is a mystical meaning to be found in a leaf, in a mountain trail, in a dewdrop, in a poor person’s face. The ideal is not only to pass from the exterior to the interior to discover the action of God in the soul, but also to discover God in all things. St. Bonaventure teaches us that “contemplation deepens the more we feel the working of God’s grace within our hearts, and the better we learn to encounter God in creatures outside ourselves.” (Pope Francis, Laudato Si, 233)
For more information on the Seamless Garment Ministry, please contact Tom & Elsbeth Germanson at 205.565.3456.

Food Pantry Items Many, many, thanks to those who so generously contribute food items on the weekends and at the School Mass on Wednesdays for the food pantry.
