Transcript of Mark Vanek Presentation. 2015

This piece is based on one of my favorite artists Jasper Johns. I incorporated the cans as a point of departure and used the name of the Des Moines river as the reference point of the subject matter. At the time, the raccoon river was not the most pleasant to be around. Nobody would even think of swimming in and let alone drink the water from a can. Now, the city officials have realized the benefits of a healthy river and also for the economic benefits it has for recreation and business growth.

IN AND OUT 11 ½ X 16 WATERCOLOR

This is a companion piece that goes along with the work titled Coitus. (not Pictured) It is very similar to the PMS work only I used the letters coitus multiple times with different colors to evoke an emotional response to that word. This is a visual and it goes with the expression in and out.

GOD CREATES THE HORSE 49 X 62 ACRYLIC PAINTING. When I was in school before we could create any paintings, we had to submit numerous preliminary sketches of our ideas to our professor- before we could put any paint on the canvas. From these sketches ,we had to explain the color schemes, themes , title , emotions and any ideas conceived to the viewer. So I thought, “What If “ God had to have a sketch book before He created anything. There are some humorous elements in the painting as well.
