The plant
The Marcegaglia plant in San Giorgio di Nogaro (Udine) is dedicated to the manufacturing of heavy plates for applications in the building and infrastructure sector, as well as for the carpentry and machinery industry.
The complex spreads over a 105 thousand square metres surface, 33 thousand of which covered, including harbour docks alongside the river Corno.
Manufacturing center has recently seen major upgrades with the starting of a new reheating furnace for normalization treatments.

The plant is strategically located, with harbour docks along the river Corno allowing access for vessels of 5,000 average tonnage, an internal railway connection and easy access to the motorway.
The manufacturing unit is also served by the nearby harbour of Monfalcone (Gorizia) that can be accessed by larger size vessels.

Typical applications
A wide array of steel gradesand manufacturing standards make the heavy plate product range suitable to the most demandingapplication sectors.

After the starting of the new reheating furnace, capable of processing more than 1300 tons of steel per day,the plant has now a yearly manufacturing capacity of 400 thousand tons.
The facility is also equipped with two slab cutting lines, fi ve plate cutting lines, a mill for edge machining of C45 quality plates, a shot blasting unit and a cold leveller.

Service center
The plant service center is equipped with a heat treatment furnace for plates, operating on specifi c algorithms developed for each material’s chemical composition.
Additional fi nishes include: edge machining, shot blasting, cut-to-length and trimming. Product marking allows the complete identifi cation of each plate.

Quality and tests
The manufacturing system of San Giorgio di Nogaro is ISO 9001 certifi ed.The range of heavy plates for pressure purposes is certifi ed AD2000 W0 by TÜV (PED 97/23/EC) while the CE marking applies to EN 10025structural steels.
A state-of-the-art installation for water treatments is part of the plant equipment to guarantee the best environmental standards.
