Why Konkan?

Development had always eluded this region despite a high level of literacy and abundant natural resources

Almost one-third of its population lived below poverty line

Mass migration of its working age population in search of greener pastures to the neighboring Also, despite its scenic beauty and rich cultural tradition, Konkan figured no where on the tourist map of the country

Perennial problem of drinking water during Summer despite heavy rainfall

MSVS Model The area had 1200 villages:.

These were divided into clusters of 10 to 12 villages each

A reputed local NGO was selected to look after developmental needs of each cluster

Representatives were appointed for each of the target groups, at various levels, down to an individual village

Representatives protected interest of their respective target group

A set of developmental activities was created for each group

This was Parivartan Kendra (PK) or Transformation Center

105 such PKs were formed.

MSVS was the central coordinating agency
