Lecture 12 Introduction to ANSYS LS-DYNA Extension
Introduction to ANSYS LS-DYNA
© 2012 ANSYS, Inc. November 8, 2012 2 Release 14.5
• ANSYS LS-DYNA in Workbench
– Very powerful for geometry modeling and mesh generation
– Extremely easy to setup contact and boundary conditions
– Capability of design optimization
– Have to start three different user interfaces for pre-processing, solving, and post-processing
• ACT (Application Extension Toolkit)
– Easy to use and comprehensive toolkit for performing customization within ANSYS Mechanical
– Become full release in R14.5

• ANSYS LS-DYNA Extension: ANSYS LS-DYNA integrated with ACT Interface
– Single user interface that integrates pre-processing, solving, and post-processing together
– Much convenient and easy to use
– Partnered with LSTC in its development
– Available after R14.5 release
– Work with existing ANSYS LS-DYNA license
– User can customize user interface to expand its features by themselves with the least amount of work, when they have ACT development license from ANSYS

• Workshop 8 “Soft Ring Impact” in the ANSYS LS-DYNA Training course is used to demonstrate the use of ANSYS LS-DYNA Extension
• In the Workshop 8, Keyword Snippet is used to
– Change the contact type
– Increase the slave penalty stiffness
– So over-penetration could be prevented between the soft and the hard materials
• Using ANSYS LS-DYNA Extension, slave penalty stiffness can be specified directly in user interface. No need to use Keyword Snippet.
