What are Look Books?

Look books can be considered to be like portfolios, except they represent a product line rather than providing visual samples of one’s work history. The term is relatively new. It came out of the colleges.

A 3 ring binder with a selection of photos, sketches and swatches.

Most companies provided both line sheets and a look book of the current season.

The line sheets used flat drawings or pictures of the clothes flat on a surface.

The look books were given less frequently and were much more expensively done-glossy, heavy paper, beautiful graphics, etc.

They almost always had clothed models and seemed to promote the brand and style of the company or collection

Your Look Book will include the following:

1. Clothing you would like to add to your wardrobe

2. Clothing you have designed and drawn in flat lines

3. Fabric sample for your designs

• Add clothing & accessories from flyers or catalogs you receive at home or printed in color from the internet. Include brand name and prices.

• You may compare similar designs from competing brands. Compare price.

• You should show several items to ‘create’ the look.

• See examples on the next slides.

HTH - 2. Clothing you have designed and drawn in flat lines. Comments should be written and show color,

accessories, and inspiration. Show variety in your drawings.
