HowtoInstallandUseRespondusLockDownBrowser&MonitorUpdated8/25/17

InstallingRespondusLockDownBrowserIfyouhavenotinstalledRespondusLockDownBrowser,youmustfollowthesestepsbeforeyouwillbeallowedtobeginyourquiz:

1) LogintoBrightspace2) Findyourcourse.3) ClickontheAssessmentstab,thenclickonQuizzesandExamsbuttoninthe

NavigationBar.

4) SelectthedesiredQuiz.

5) ClickontheDownloadandinstallthelatestversionofLockDownBrowserlink.Ifyou’vealreadyinstalledit,justclicktheblueLaunchLockDownBrowserbutton.Yourcomputerwillchecktoseeifit’sinstalled.Ifit’snot,itwilldirectyoutoinstallitoncemore.

6) ClickonInstallNow.Note:IfyouhaveneverusedRespondusLockDownBrowser/Monitorbefore,youcanwatchashortvideotolearnaboutwhatitisandhowitworks.

7) Onceyou’vedownloadedRespondus,youwillseethethankyoupage.Findthedownloadedfileonyourcomputerandruntheinstallation.Followtheonscreeninstructions.

8) Onceit’sinstalled,clickonthequizinyourBrightspacecourseoncemore.Now,clickonLaunchLockDownBrowser.Itshouldautomaticallylaunchandredirectyoutothepagewhereyoucanstartthequiz.ClickonStartQuiz!

9) Now,youwillbepromptedtoeithercontinuewithawebcam,or,ifyouareinacomputerlabortestingcenter,thenproctorwillenterthepasswordtoaccessthequizorexamforyou.Ifyouaretakinganonlineorhybridclassandtakingthisquizorexamfromhome,youwillleavethebuttonthatsays:“Iwanttouseawebcam”selected.ClickContinue.

10) Youwillnowwalkthroughthesign-inprocessforyourproctoredexam.ThefirststepistoAgreetotheTermsofUse.ClickAgree.

11) Next,youwillhavetoperformawebcamcheck.Ifyouseeyourwebcamvideointhewindow,clickYes.Ifyou’rehavingaproblemwithyourwebcam,clickNo.Thesystemwillwalkyouthroughsomestepstotryandtroubleshootthis.

Note:Ifyouwebcamisnotdetected,butyouthinkeverythingispluggedincorrectly,clickthegreenrefreshbuttonorclicktheTryAgainbuttontotryandre-activateit.

YoumayalsoneedtoallowRespondustohaveaccesstoyourwebcamandmicrophone.ClickonAllow,andchecktheRememberbox.ThenclickClose.Thisshouldactivateyourwebcam.

12) Thenextstepwillbetorecordashortfivesecondvideoofyourself.Thiswillmakesurethatyourwebcamandmicrophoneisworkingproperly.ClickRecordFiveSecondVideo.Youcannowwatchthebriefrecordingtomakesureitplays.Ifeverythinglooksgood,clickContinue.

13) Thenextstepistotakeyourpicture.Thisissoyourinstructorcanverifywhoyouare.So,makesuretositupstraightandensurethatyouareniceandclearinthepicture.Whenyou’reready,clickTakePicture.YoucanclickTryAgainasmanytimesasyoulike.Note:Havingabrightlightbehindyouwillmakeyouappeardarkinthepicture,sopleasechoosealocationtotakeyourexamthatiswelllit.ClickContinuewhenyou’rehappywithyourpicture.

14) Next,youwillhavetoshowyourStudentPhoto/apictureID.Pleasemake

surethisisaclearpicture,andthatyouholdyourIDcloseenoughtothecamerasoyourinstructorcanidentifywhoyouareandseeyourname.Whenyou’reready,clickTakePicture.YoucanclickTryAgainifyouneedto.

15) Next,youwillneedtoperformanEnvironmentCheck.Thischeckittomakesurethatyoudonothaveanyun-approveditemsduringyourquizorexam.ClickStartRecording.Pleasepanyourcameraleftandright,andtiltthecameraupanddown.Showyourdeskandimmediatesurroundings.Whenyou’refinished,clickStopRecording.YoucanwatchNote:Ifyourinstructorisnotabletodeterminewhetheryouhaveun-approveditemsaroundyou,theymaydecidetoflagyourexam.Thismayresultinhavingtoretaketheexam,orworse,impactyourgrade.Youshouldtakeyourexamsbyyourselfwithnooneelsearound.Ifsomeonewalksinonyouduringyourexam,simplyaskthemtoleaveandexplaintothecamerathatsomeonewalkedin.(Thisdoeshappenonoccasion,sojustmakesuretoexplainthatsomeonewalkedinandthenleft.)

Youcancheckyourrecordingbyclickingtheplaybutton.Ifeverythinglooksgood,clickContinue.YoucanclickTryAgainifyouthinkthevideodoesnotaccuratelyshowyourenvironment.Ifthevideodoesn’tload,clickthegreenrefreshbuttonatthetopofyourscreen.

16) ThenextstepisAdditionalInstructions.Thisiswhereyourinstructorwillindicateanyspecialdirectionsthatyouhaveforyourquizorexam.Sometimes,thiswillincludebeingallowedtohaveascrapsheetofpaper,oracalculator.PleasemakesuretocheckwithyourinstructorFIRSTtoseewhatisallowedandnotallowedforyourquizorexam.

17) Ok,you’reallset!ClickBeginExamwhenyou’reready.

Onceyouarefinishedwithyourexam,youwillbeabletocloseLockDownBrowser.Youwillgetapop-upwindowaskingiftherewereanyissueswiththeexam.Ifyouhadtechnicalproblemsofanykind,pleasefillthisoutandclickSubmitFeedback.Ifeverythingwentwell,leavethison“Allwentsmoothly”,andclickSubmitFeedback.

AvoidingIssueswithRespondusLockDownBrowser/Monitor

1) MakesurethatyoudonothaveanyprogramsthatwoulduseyourwebcamormicrophonebeforelaunchingRespondusLockDownBrowser.Forexample,Skype,FaceTime,anykindofInstantMessagingprogram,etc…ThiscanpreventRespondusfromloadingproperly.

2) ItisimportantthatyouhavethemostrecentversionofRespondusLockDownBrowserinstalled.Ifyouhaven’tusedRespondusforawhile,itmaynotworkifyouhaveanoutdatedversion.Remember,youcanalwaysdownloadthelatestversionbynavigatingtoyourquizusingastandardwebbrowser.(Firefox,Chrome,Safari).Youwillseeadownloadlink.

3) RespondusLockDownBrowser/MonitorutilizestheAdobeFlashPlayertoinitiatethewebcam.Ifyourwebcamfailstoload,tryupdatingtothelatestversionofAdobeFlashPlayer.https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

4) Makesureyouhaveastronginternetconnection.IfyouareonWiFi,make

surethatyouhaveaconsistentconnection.Ifyourinternetconnectionisweak,youshouldNOTattempttheexamuntilyouhaveastableconnection.
