• Within the context of the integumentary (skin) system: An ant crawling on your arm disturbs the hairs on your arm. You feel that stimulus and brush the ant away!

• Within the context of the circulatory system: If foreign invaders such as a bacteria enter your body, your body sounds an alert and dispatches an army of white blood cells to the wound site to attack the invaders.

system: If you hold your breath (a conscious act), carbon dioxide begins to build up in the blood stream. Your body detects this; you faint and lose consciousness; you begin to breathe normally, your body receives the oxygen it needs, and you return to consciousness.

system: If there is too much glucose in your blood stream, the pancreas will produce a chemical called insulin which enables body cells to take in glucose from the blood and use it for energy. If the glucose returns to the normal level, the production of insulin from the pancreas would stop.
