Every couple wants theirwedding to be memorable. The goal of planning a wed-ding is to create an experi-ence that everyone will re-member for years to come. For some couples, a themewedding is the best way toaccomplish just that.
When it comes time toselect a theme, the day the wedding takes place maydictate the theme. For ex-
ample, if the wedding takesplace on Halloween, theideas for the theme are easy. Many other couples choosea theme that highlights aspecific interest or hobbyor something that is dear tothem. Here are some popu-lar wedding themes.
Holiday: The Christ-mas season lends itself wellto wedding planning. Thecolors (red, green, gold)are already established, andmost churches and build-ings are already decked outin holiday finery, cuttingdown on the amount offlowers and embellishmentscouples need. Because theholiday season is so busyand a popular time for so-cializing, couples who wantto tie the knot during thistime of year should sendsave-the-date cards well inadvance. Another optionis to have a Christmas in
Wedding themes can add up to extra fun and express couples interestsJuly wedding, featuringthe same holiday themes butwithout the hectic nature ofthe holiday season.
Vegas: Couples whowant to tie the knot in LasVegas but want to ensure alltheir loved ones can attendcan recreate the magic ofVegas wherever they maybe. Casino-inspired gamesand big buffet meals canmake guests feel like they
have stepped into a casinoon the famed Vegas strip. Inaddition, an Elvis imperson-ator is essential to a Vegaswedding.
TV show: Some cou-ples elevate certain televi-sion shows to cult status.Whether its Friends orStar Trek, popular televi-sion shows have been trans-formed into festive weddingthemes. Whether the idea isto go daring and exchangevows in costume or simplyname reception tables ac-cording to characters orshow locations, couples caninclude a little television funinto the event.
Fairytale: Many menand women envision a fai-rytale wedding complete with horse-drawn carriageand the happily ever after. This is what makes Disneyproperties as well as the various castles around the

world popular backdropsfor wedding events. Thoseplanning a fairytale weddingneed only look to favoritestories or movies for theirinspiration.
Interest or passion:
Love to climb mountains? Avid about scuba diving?Couples who share a par-ticular interest can includeelements of this sport orhobby into their wedding.Invitations and decor can
hint at the theme, and thenspecial activities can fur-ther enhance it. Fish bowlsas centerpieces may callto mind underwater ad- ventures, while surfboard-shaped invites may set the
scene for a beachside party.Theme weddings can
add an extra spice to thefestivities and incorporatecouples interests into theevent making it evenmore special.
Over the course of theirlifetimes, many people willbe wedding guests on sev-eral occasions. During theheight of wedding season, weddings can run into oneanother, as the format andthe festivities are similar at
various ceremonies. Cou-ples interested in settingtheir nuptials apart may want to enhance the wed-ding reception with a fewunique ideas.
Who hasnt attended a wedding that seems for-mulaic? The couple en-ters, they do their spot-
Unique wedding reception toucheslight dance, theres food, abouquet toss and then thecake cutting. Guests mayactually be able to predictwhats coming next. Whileit is often customary andeasy to follow tradition, that doesnt mean you can-
not buck with tradition andoffer a few creative ideas tomake your event stand out.
Here are several ideasyou can introduce into yourwedding to add somethingspecial to the reception.
Skip the big entrance. Those who were kindenough to attend the cer-emony have already beenintroduced to the newlyminted happy couple. In-stead of spending the cock-tail hour in the isolation ofthe wedding suite, minglewith your guests from startto finish. So much time isspent posing for picturesor being out of touch with
guests, the cocktail hourcan be a great time to sitand chat. Being with guestsduring the cocktail hourmeans you dont have to
make that big entrancefrom behind closed doors.Guests will have all eyes onyou when you step on thedance floor for your firstdance together.
Dance to an upbeatnumber. Guests are expect-
ing a slow, sappy tune. Whatthey may not expect is anupbeat song that shows youare willing to have a littlefun. If you havent masteredthe waltz but enjoy a littlequick step now and again, feel free to choose a tunethat shows your excitementand love for each other.
Encourage couples todance together. Its oftencustomary for the bridalparty to join the bride andgroom on the dance floormidway through the firstdance. However, that leavesspouses or significant oth-ers waiting in the wingswhile their dates tango with
groomsmen or bridesmaids.Instead, dont have assignedpartners. Rather, encour-age your bridal party mem-bers to dance with whom-ever they choose.
Swap the garter/bou-quet toss for somethingmore meaningful. If yourepart of a couple who feelsthe garter and bouquet tosshas become trite, there areother ways to create spe-cial moments in your cel-ebration ones that dontsingle out the singletons
who havent yet found theirspecial someones. Use thistime to present a small giftor token of your affectionto someone on the guest listwho has served as a mentoror source of inspiration.
Choose one special
component as an extragoodie for guests. Somecouples feel the more theyoffer the better guests willview their wedding. Spend-ing more money doesntnecessarily mean guests willhave a better time. If you want to go above and be-yond the ordinary, find onething that you absolutelylove and offer that at theparty. It could be a flambepresentation, a chocolate orcandy bar, a carving stationwith your all-time favoritefood (even if thats PB&J),or a carnival-inspired auto-matic photo booth.
Hire a live performer.
Although its hard to beatthe performance quality of your wedding song beingperformed by the originalartist, unless youre cousinswith Celine Dion, chancesare she wont be availableto sing My Heart WillGo On at your reception. However, a live band addsa certain level of excitementthat a disk jockey may notbe able to provide. Those who are adding a culturalor ethnic component totheir wedding may want
to hire a dance troupe oranother type of performer,
like a bagpiper, as an addedmeasure of entertainmentfor guests.
Let them eat . . . cook-ies? Some people just dontlike cake. Therefore, whyshould a couple have tocut a seven-tiered whiteconfection? Towers of dif-ferent types of treats canbe created from just aboutanything and serve as theperfect backdrop for thatclassic cake-cutting photo.A pyramid of cream puffs, stacks of brownies, a cookie
castle, or cereal-cake con-coctions can work. Some
bakeries will decorate adummy styrofoam cake, and then you can serveapple pie a la mode, if youdesire.
Stage a cos tumeswitch. Lets face it, danc-ing all night in a long gowntakes some stamina. As thebride, have a more comfort-able cocktail dress availableto switch into for the latterpart of the reception. It willalso add some variety toyour wedding photos.

Do you have a shelf orcabinet thats filled to thebrim with wedding favorssuch as engraved ice creamscoopers, cake servers, cheese spreaders or tea lightcandle holders? If you do,youre not alone. As couplespore over guest favor op-tions, many select trinketsor knickknacks that, whilethoughtful, end up collect-ing dust in someones home.
Edible gifts also can bethoughtful and flavorful!
Guests may look forwardto an edible favor becauseits a memento of the spe-cial occasion, and it wontbecome a permanent fixturein their homes. There aremany edible favors fromwhich to choose. They canalso be customized accord-ing to the theme of thewedding.
ChocolateIts difficult to find an ed-
ible favor more universallybeloved than chocolate.Rich and inviting, choco-late has long been given as
a symbol of love and devo-tion. Chocolate candiesand baked goods can work well for wedding favors,
Feed on these wedding favor ideasprovided the favors are re-frigerated to avoid melting.
Ideas for chocolate fa- vors include individuallypackaged truffles, gour-met brownie bites, candy-covered chocolates withan inscription, chocolatecovered apples, chocolatecoins, and other similar cre-ations. Chocolate moldeddesigns (much like thosechocolate Easter bunnies)
are another idea.
CookiesSweet cookies also make
good edible favors. But-ter cookies are a favoritebecause they are sturdyenough to cut into differentshapes. Professionally iced, these cookies can be a mas-terpiece to behold. Somecouples opt for customizedfortune cookies that expresspersonalized sentiments toguests.
Make-your-ownSometimes its less ex-
pensive to give guests kitsthat they can take home
to create their own edibletreasures. Options aboundand can include everythingfrom personalized pack-
ets of hot chocolate to teabags. Other couples chooseamong mixes for makingcookies or cakes.
CandiesIt has become popular to
have a self-serve candy barat many weddings. Guestsare invited to step up tothe display and serve them-selves from a series of dif-ferent confections. Autumn
weddings could have Hal-loween-inspired candies orthose in fall hues. Its easy tofollow a color theme whenyou have a bevy of differentcandies at your disposal. Many discount stores sellinexpensive jars and candydishes to house the candy.Designer Chinese takeout-type containers are avail-able from craft stores andcan be the perfect way forguests to make that candyportable.
Other ediblesFrom cupcakes to ma-
ple syrup to personalizedbottles of barbecue sauce,
couples have many optionsfor guest favors at theirdisposal.

Edible wedding favors may include decorative cookie baskets featuring gourmet cookiesfrom a favorite bakery.
Those thinking about ty-ing the knot in the monthsto come may be discouragedby how expensive weddingscan be. But with a little in-genuity and a hands-on ap-proach, couples can have awedding that is inexpensiveand memorable.
According to Costof-Wedding.com, on average,
U.S. couples spend $26,542for their weddings. Theseamounts do not includethe cost for an engagementring or wedding bands. Withsuch a high price tag, somecouples may wonder if theycan afford their dream wed-ding or if there are ways tocut costs. Having a back-yard, DIY wedding can bethe answer.
Although some may en-vision a backyard wedding with picnic benches andDad at the grill, it can be amuch classier affair. Cou-ples are realizing that themoney they would normallyspend on a big wedding atan outside venue can be putto better use, either throughbuying a new home or fixingup one they may alreadyown. For couples who arepicky about details, havinga DIY event ensures thatthey can control the detailsand have them as personalas they like.
Getting started A DIY wedding is one
that will take much morework than simply hiringvendors and leaving the de-
Do-it-yourself wedding tips for the cost-conscious coupletails to them. But the moneysaved can be substantial. Awell-planned wedding is thebest start.
Start making lists of allthe things you will need:
location tables and chairs linens food silverware and
glassware invitations photography music officiant centerpieces and
other decor cake or dessert lighting attire flowers
Work in advanceMany items necessary for
a wedding can be boughtin advance. Some couplesfind that purchasing low-cost items at discount storesturns out to be less expen-sive than renting. For exam-ple, inexpensive glasses and
silverware can be bought atdollar stores or chains likeIkea. Later on these itemscan be kept, sold or evendonated to shelters.
Tablecloths dont haveto be traditional. It may beless expensive to purchasepieces of fabric from a fab-ric store and dress themup oneself. Candles can be
stockpiled easily and pro-vide an affordable meansof ambient light. Plan outcenterpiece ideas and figureout which components canbe bought and stored. Thenitems can be assembled atleisure. Wedding stationeryis one thing that will have tobe bought well in advanceso there will be time enoughto print out save-the-dates,invitations and responsecards, as well as mail them.
An informal weddingmay mean couples can getsimple attire. Buying off therack may mean a smallerprice tag for gowns. Gentle-men may be able to farewith sportcoats and slacks.
Purchase wardrobe essen-tials several months in ad-vance to be sure there willbe time for alterations.
Enlist the help of familyand friends to get many ofthe tasks completed. Uponasking, many couples findthere are members of thefamily who have skills incertain areas, which can
be tapped for the wedding. There may be a gourmetchef, a disc jockey, a pho-tographer, or even someonewho can officiate the vows.Having these people onboard means a great reduc-tion in costs.
Readying the venueBecause couples will be
doing the work themselves, its best to start several daysin advance of the wedding(weather permitting). Besure the grounds are wellgroomed and landscaped.Ensure there are no trip-ping hazards and that thereis a sturdy surface for plac-ing tables or creating a
dance floor. It may pay to ask an elec-
trician or someone whodabbles in electric work tohelp string some lights tobetter illuminate the area, especially for when the sungoes down.
Set up the tables andchairs to finalize placementthe day before. Figure out
where the ceremony willtake place. A small arborcan mark the area and makea nice photo backdrop.Dress the tables with linensand settings the morning ofthe wedding.
One splurge couples maywant to make is hiring a waitstaff to help set upfood service areas, serve asbartenders, and clear awaydishes and other mess. This way the bride and groomcan mingle with guests.
Other tips and tricksHere are some other ways
to save money. Fruit is less expensive
than flowers for center-
pieces. Include postcard re-
sponse cards in weddinginvites. The postage is less, and you dont have to spendmoney on an extra enve-lope.
Be sure to check withyour town if you need a per-mit or variance for havingso many cars parked by the
house in the event of a back- yard wedding. Otherwiseyou could be facing a fine.
Many different foodscan be cooked in advanceand frozen instead of hiringa catering service.
Consider favors thatalso double as table cen-terpieces.
Bouquets can easilybe made with store-boughtflowers, some floral tapeand decorative ribbon.
Restrict the bar to wineand beer, and youll savemoney on expensive liquors.
A DIY wedding can be afun, memorable event thatcosts much less than a tra-ditional wedding.

Choosing a hueor the bridesmaidgowns made easy
Bridesmaids are an im-portant part of the weddingparty, and most brides optto have a handful of closefriends and family membersplay a special role in thewedding. Choosing a gown
and a color that will flatterall of the bridesmaids typi-cally takes a little work.
An overwhelming ma-jority of couples choose tohave a formal wedding. Theaverage number of brides-maids for these formal wed-dings is four. Consideringaround two million wed-dings take place in NorthAmerica every year, thats a

lot of bridesmaids for whomgowns and other attire mustbe planned.
Many bridesmaids worryabout the gowns they will
wear come the big day. Hor-rible bridesmaid dresseshave been the butt of jokesfor years, and many peoplehave their own stories of
garish gowns theyve beenasked to don for a wed-ding. Some have said thatbrides intentionally chooseugly gowns for their brides-maids to ensure theyre notoutshone come the wedding
day. Although this may bethe case for some, mostbrides aspire to select gownsthat will be flattering for all. And color scheme is inte-gral in the choice of gown.
Every well-planned wed-ding carries a color schemethroughout. This includesthe color a bride selects forher bridesmaids to wear. But not every color accen-

Depending on hair colorand skin shade, there aremany flattering hues avail-able for gowns. When mak-ing this decision, considerbridesmaids ethnicity andskin tone.
African-American: Wom-en with dark skin and hairmay really shine in jewel-colored gowns, includingsilver, gold, purple andsalmon. Very pale colorsmay be daring and con-spicuous.
Asian and olive-skinned
women: Those with a slightyellow tone to their skin willlook good in many colors, including red, navy, peach, and fuchsia. However, avoidcolors in light yellow, aqua, gray, taupe, or mint, whichmay make the bridesmaidlook washed out.
Fair skin: Ladies withpale skin will benefit from
richly colored gowns in jew-el tones. Pastels may work, but be careful about thosedepending on hair color.Pink or red-hued gownsmay clash with someone with auburn hair. Yellowand green may not work with a fair brunette. Grayand silver may wash outsomeone who is pale andblonde.
Once a color is chosen, brides also need to considerthe season. Certain colorsmay look out of place de-pending on the season. Forexample, an evergreen ordeep blue may seem wintryduring a summer wedding.
Similarly, russet or brownmay work for the autumn, but not for a spring wed-ding. Many brides gravitatetoward mid-level blues, greens, pinks and purplesfor their weddings simplybecause those colors tran-scend the seasons.
After colors are workedout, the style of the gowndeserves consideration. Be-cause not every bridesmaid
has the same physical attri-butes, many brides are nowopen to selecting a colorand length and allowingthe bridesmaid herself tochoose the exact style. Thisway someone who is busty wont feel uncomfortablein strapless, and someonewho is thin wont be over-whelmed by a lot of ruffles. The intent is to have brides-

maids feel beautiful andcomfortable, and differentstyles can help achieve this.
Making the effort tochoose a gown color andstyle that is flattering toall in the bridal party willhelp the ladies feel they aretruly a special part of thewedding.

Brides-to-be thinking ofasking a pregnant friend orfamily member to be in thebridal party should knowsuch a request is common.Recent findings indicatethat around half of all wed-dings now have at least onemember of the bridal partyshowing off a baby-to-be.
Barring a medical con-dition, there is no reasona pregnant woman cantbe in the wedding and ful-fill her obligations, so feelfree to invite that specialsomeone to be in the wed-ding. There are just a fewthings to consider to helpmake it easier on everyoneinvolved. Think over thesethings.
Gowns: One of thethings brides and brides-maids often fret about isthe gown they will be wear-ing. While nonpregnantmembers of the bridal party wont fluctuate much inweight from the day of theirfirst fittings to the weddingday, a pregnant woman will. This will have to be taken
into consideration. Somematernity designers cre-ate bridesmaid dresses for
Tings to consider when a bridesmaid is expecting a babypregnant women, but theymay not exactly match theother gowns in mind. Askthe bridal store if altera-tions can be made to a stan-dard gown, including order-ing a much larger size, add-ing elastic panels or anotherway to ensure the gown willstretch. Also, be consider-ate and choose a gown in anempire-waist style so that itis flattering for the pregnantbridesmaid.
Shoes: While preg-nant, some womens feetswell. Having strict restric-tions on footwear can makea pregnant woman uncom-fortable. Low heels or bal-lerina slippers can be com-fortable and fashionable. The other members of thebridal party may also thankyou for choosing a sensibleshoe.
Breaks: Many activi-ties during the weddingare bound to be tiring. Butsomeone who is pregnantmay feel it more than oth-ers. Ensure your mama-to-be has ample time to sit
and rest. Also, try to haveplanning meetings near arestroom where she will be
comfortable. Non-alcoholic drinks:
From bachelorette partiesto the wedding itself, besure there are plenty ofnonalcoholic and decaffein-ated drinks she can enjoy.Pregnant women need tohave a lot of water to meetthe physical demand ofpregnancy as well.
Travel: In the lattermonths of the pregnancy, many doctors advise againstair travel. Spending longhours in a car may be un-comfortable too. If you were thinking about hav-ing the wedding far away, these are things that mustbe taken into consideration. You may want to revise yourplans if your heart is set onhaving this woman in thebridal party.
Ceremony: It can betiring for a pregnant wom-an, especially one in thelast trimester, to stand for along period of time. If youare having a long, religiousceremony, see if a seat canbe arranged so your brides-
maid can sit down when sheneeds a rest.
Declined invitation:
Some pregnant women willjump at the chance to be inthe wedding, while othersmay realize their limitationsand prefer to attend onlyas a guest. Have a another
person in mind in case yourbridesmaid invitation isdeclined, and do not hold
it against the person if shefeels she wont be able tocommit during her preg-nancy.
Patience: Although alleyes are generally on the
bride on her special day, having a pregnant brides-maid may garner a share of

oohs and aahs and atten-tion for her as well. Its ahumble bride who can shareher spotlight for a while. And remember, the some-thing newat your wedding
may be that new baby whois on the way!
It has often been saidthat what people remembermost about wedding recep-tions is the food and if theyhad fun. Therefore, insteadof worrying about choosingJordan almonds over choco-late truffles, or whether thecake should have an extratier, couples may want topay more attention to select-ing their reception menus.
Although certain foodsare wedding staples, cou-ples should think with theirstomachs instead of theirheads when selecting fare.Having a selection of foodsthat taste as good as theylook is a wise idea overhaving certain foods simplybecause they are trendy.
Whether you are cookingyourself, having a familymember serve as chef, orrelying on the menu of thereception hall, think about
Use cuisine to create a wedding to rememberfoods that will please guestsand select those items, re-gardless of them being fan-cy. Here are other tips.
You want foods to befilling, but not so much sothat guests have to waddleto the dance floor. If youreplanning on several courses, keep portion sizes small tooffer a taste of the differentitems offered.
Classic foods can workwell as wedding fare. Roasts, barbecued meats and favor-ite pasta dishes can makeguests feel like theyre din-ing at someones home andnot at a wedding.
Choose items peoplehave heard of. Instead oftornadoes of beef, select ahearty prime rib. Just be-cause a dish sounds fancydoesnt make it taste better. If a guest doesnt know whathe or she is eating, it can be
uncomfortable. Now is notthe time to experiment withexotic foods, either. Other-wise, some picky eaters maybe left hungry.
Think about the foodsyou love and see if they canbe incorporated. Althougha breakfast bar at an eve-ning event may seem funny, waffles and omelets may ap-peal to a greater number ofguests than a gourmet fishcreation.
Dont make vegetar-ians an afterthought. Toooften, vegetarians must eat
whatever the kitchen canpull together, which is usu-ally a compilation of the vegetable garnishes fromthe meat dishes. Make aneffort to have a true vegetar-ian dish that is intricate anddelicious.
Mashed potatoes are acrowd-pleaser. Serve littleportions of mashed potatoesin cocktail glasses and en-able guests to top as they seefit with bacon bits, cheeseor chives.
No idea is silly, and
serving any type of foodin an hors-doeuvre stylecan make it acceptable ata formal affair, whetherthat food is pizza or caviar-topped crackers.
If you have a favoriterestaurant that serves deli-cious food, find out if theywill cater your wedding.
Just because it isnt onthe menu doesnt mean itcannot be prepared. Talk tothe catering manager andlet him or her know yourpreferences. Theres a goodchance you can have items
that arent on the standardcatering menu.
Think creatively foryour cocktail hour bars. Abread bar, a dipping station, milk and cookies service, orvegetable bar are optionsthat go against the standardcheese and pasta stations.
Although its your wed-ding, ultimately the goalis to please the guests. Bychoosing foods they willlove and rave about, youreguaranteed positive remarkson your wedding.
Newly engaged coupleschoose to capture the oc-casion in photos that theycan cherish. Often, one ofthese photos is used as anannouncement to familyand friends and mighteven be published in thenewspaper.
Engagement photosmay be part of a pack-age negotiated with thephotographer who willbe covering the weddingday. Some couples enlistthe help of a friend or abudding photographer tocapture an engagementshot. The average cost ofengagement photos canrange from $200 to $500.Some couples opt to use aphotographer who mightspecialize in other areas(i.e. fashion models), butmay want to break intothe wedding biz becauseof how lucrative it can be.Costs may be negotiatedas a result.
When shopping aroundfor a photographer, thereare certain things couples
should keep in mind. Thefirst and most importantis selecting a photogra-pher you can relate to. Ifyou dont feel a connec-tion with the photogra-pher, he or she will havetrouble coaxing the shotsthat will produce the bestresults. He or she shouldalso be a professionaland have some experi-ence working with pos-ing couples. This way thephotos dont look stiff orcontrived. Here are someother tips that can lead togreat photos.
Find a photogra-pher who fits your style.
If youre a quirky couple,go with a quirky photog-rapher. If youre reservedand a follow-the-booktype of couple, then se-lect a more tradition-al photographer. Somephotographers out thereforget that this is yourmoment and want to im-part their idea of what
Engagement photo ideasyou want. Make sure he orshe takes your ideas intoconsideration.
Select one who is opento different shoot loca-tions and brainstorming. Some of the best photosoccur in natural settings, where things arent entirelyplanned. If a photographersimply works out of a studio, you may want to select onewho has more free rein withdifferent locales.
Choose your locationwisely. Certain locationswill stand out in your mindsbecause they are visual-ly stunning or are specialplaces where you have spentmoments as a couple. Bychoosing a place that of-fers a personal connection, theres a good chance youllappreciate the photos inthe long run. Also, be opento the fact that unplannedstops may offer a greatbackground for the image.Be open to the unexpected.
Try random poses andsome candid shots. Al -though you might have a
vision of the perfect photoin your mind, experiment-ing with different ideas cansometimes lead to a greatphoto you really love. Ex-pect to take your share ofkissing, nose-touching andportrait shots. But some funposes, such as running orjumping (or rolling aroundon a beach full of waves)can produce candid shotsthat are truly masterpiec-es. Remember, sometimesphotographers will pose youin positions that seem a bitawkward, but this is to getthe best lines of the bodyand flattering images.
Choose clothing that
fits the mood. If time andbudget allow, have sev-eral different wardrobechanges so that you cansee which outfits work andwhich ones dont. A formaloutfit, comfortable streetclothes, something beachy,or clothing that fits withyour interests (such as polo

Many brides-to-be lookforward to the day whenthey visit a bridal salon and
are able to try on gowns forthe first time. There are cer-tain tips that can make theday go much more smoothlyand potentially reduce theamount of time it may taketo find the perfect gown.
Wear a supportive,well-constructed straplessbra or corset in your correctsize. If you will be wearing apetticoat, also have the rightsize available.
Go without face make-up when trying on gowns sothey remain clean.
Try to wear your hair
Tips for trying on wedding gownssimilar to the style you havein mind for your wedding.
Note that the size of
the wedding gown you willwear is typically one to twosizes larger than your day-to-day clothes. Proper mea-surements can be matchedto designers size charts.
Its best to limit thenumber of people withwhom you shop to one ortwo trusted friends or fam-ily members. An entouragecan be confusing.
Its always better toorder a slightly larger gownand leave room for altera-tions if you are betweensizes.
Weddings are filledwith many emotions: hap-piness, excitement andanticipation, to namea few. With all of thepositive emotions a wed-ding may drum up, inthe mix there may be afew negative ones, in-cluding feelings of beingoverwhelmed at all thedetails that need to becompleted on a deadline.
One aspect of weddingplanning that tends tosend people into panic is wedding reception seat-ing arrangements. Thethought of having 200friends and family mem-bers together under oneroof and then attempt-ing to seat them next toan acceptable group ofpeople can cause somecouples to hyperventilate.
Every family has itsups and downs, and thereare certain people whoget along well and a fewwho clash. Ensuring thata wedding is memorablefor all the right reasons
(and not for the brawlat table 3) is why seat-ing arrangements are soimportant. Many cou-ples can use a little ad-vice when seating guests, while others would loveanother person to handlethe seating arrangementsfor them.
Here are some guide-lines for setting up re-ception seating arrange-ments.
Place yourselves, as well as the bridal party,at a separate table that isin a prime location in theroom. Be sure to allowthe spouses or dates of
bridal party members atthe same table so couplesremain together.
S o m e c o u p l e schoose to seat both setsof parents at one tabletogether the parentstable. Grandparents may
Taking the guesswork out of seating your guests
also be seated at this table, depending on the number
of people each table canaccommodate. If children under the
age of 7 are invited, theyshould be seated with theirparents. Children betweenages 7 and 14 can be seatedat a separate kids table.
Be mindful of guests with disabilities or mobil-ity issues. Seat them closeto the door, bathrooms orfood station.
Instead of separatingthe bride and the groomsfamily to separate sides, intermingle the tables topromote conversation.
Consider arrangingguests by common interests
at each table, seating busi-ness associates or parentsfriends together.
Take into consider-ation people who have rela-tionship rifts, and try to seatthem separately. But dontstress about this too much
because it wont be possibleto accommodate everyone.
Youll have to hope that atyour wedding a certain levelof decorum will preside.
Its not unheard of tolet guests seat themselves.
This takes the pressure offinding a seat for everyone
off of you as a couple andenables you to think aboutthe other tasks at hand. Thiscan take place at a buffetwedding or a smaller affair.

A wedding is a joyousevent that couples want toshare with as many peo-ple as possible. Couplescommonly ask family andfriends to take part in theceremony as ushers, brides-maids or readers. Beforeenlisting the help of a childto fill such roles, couplesshould carefully considerwhether a youngster is ca-pable of participating in thewedding ceremony.
Couples worrying aboutall the little details of theirown weddings may not wantto fret about kiddie melt-downs or the bloopers thatcan occur when kids act likekids. Each childs personalmaturity level should beconsidered before enlistingtheir help. There are someother strategies to use.
Young children servingas flower girls or ring bear-ers should be able to walkdown the aisle without coax-ing. If they cannot handle
Children in a wedding means no kidding aroundthis task, then they shouldnot be asked to take part inthe wedding.
Should children provecompetent to walk down theaisle unattended, couplescan have them then maketheir way to the seats nextto their parents, rather thanawkwardly standing withthe rest of the bridal partyfor the ceremony.
A minimum age re-quirement for wedding par-
ticipants might be a goodidea. A child age 5 or upmay be able to appreciatethe importance of the event.
Consult with the pastoror officiant of the ceremo-ny. The ceremony locationmay have rules governingchildren in the ceremony.
All people who haveparticipated in the cer-emony will be invited to thereception. If couples decideto have a kids-free party, then reconsider children inthe ceremony.
Think about anotherrole for a young child thatwill not disrupt the proceed-ings. Perhaps he or she canhelp hand out birdseed orsmall bottles of bubbles to
use when the couple hasfinished their vows. Or givechildren disposable camerasand allow them to capturea kids-eye view of the wed-ding.

Several factors need to be considered before deciding onhow to include children in the wedding ceremony.
