INTRODUCTION

Lidar (also called LIDAR, LiDAR, and LADAR) is a surveying method that measures distance to a target by illuminating that target with a laser light.

The name lidar ,sometimes considered as acronym of light Detection And Ranging or sometimes Light Imaging,Detection,And Ranging.

LIDAR uses ultraviolet, visible or infrared light to image objects and can be used with a wide range of targets, including non metallic objects, rain, chemical compounds.

Why lidar….?

It is used to generating and directly geo referenced spatial information.

Laser produces a coherent light source.

It is active sensor,do not require sunlight, they can be used either during the day or at day light.

Airborne Lidar systems use1064nm.

Description Currently, intelligent vehicles are equipped with multiple sensors to perceive the

environment. Two common categories of them are camera and LIDAR.

Camera captures color, shape and appearance of the traffic sign. Substantial vision-based algorithms have been proposed to detect and recognize the traffic sign. However, this problem is still open and has many challenges.

LIDAR is capable of providing such information. But it cannot acquire the visual information of the traffic sign. Therefore, fusing the measurements of both sensors gives a highly promising direction for traffic sign detection and recognition in complex environments.

Forestry based on lidarReference paper-2

Direct measurements include:•Stand Density•Tree Height•Crown Width•Crown Length

Estimates include:•Volume•Biomass•Basal Area•DBH (diameter at breast height)

APPLICATION ON FORESTRY

Forestry applications require a precise inventory of individual trees and groups, or

"stands" of trees in order to address

Forest management and planning,

Study forest ecology and habitats,

Quantify forest fire fuel, and

Estimate carbon absorption.

Present Technical Advancement in LIDARPresent Technical Advancement in LIDAR

This car takes generated maps and combines them with high-resolution maps of the world, producing different types of data models that allow it to drive itself.

A LiDAR speed gun is a device used by the police for speed limit enforcement which uses LiDAR to detect the speed of a vehicle.

The ongoing Lunar Laser Ranging Experiment measures the distance between the Earth and the Moon using laser ranging. Lasers on Earth are aimed at retro reflectors planted on the Moon, and the time for the reflected light to return is determined.

applications Agriculture : Create a Topographical map of the fields and reveals the slopes and sun

exposure of the farm land. Archaeology. Autonomous vehicles: Autonomous vehicles use lidar for obstacle detection and

avoidance to navigate safely through environments. Biology and conservation. Geology and soil science: ICESat (Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite) Atmospheric Remote Sensing and Meteorology. Law enforcement: Lidar speed guns. Military. Physics and astronomy, Robotics and Spaceflight. Surveying, Transport , wind farm optimization and many more.

ADVANTAGES High accuracy

Higher data density

Cost is less

Canopy penetration and stores additional data

CONCLUSIONIt has allowed data to be collected that was difficult or impossible to obtain prior

to its introduction.

Data collection and its processing is relatively fast

LIDAR saves clients money

LIDAR offers flexibility

LIDAR is unobtrusive and environmentally friendly
