Abstract ::
▪ One germen phycist – Harald Haas has come up with a solution he calls “Data through Illumination”.
▪ Sending data through LED light bulb .
▪ It’s the same idea band behind infrared remote controls but far more powerful.
▪ Haas says his invention, which he calls D-Light, can produce data rates faster than 10 MB/Sec, which is speedier than your average broadband connection.
▪ Security would be snap – if you can’t see the light, you can’t access the data.
Introduction ::
First Question ::
What is Li-Fi ??
▪ Li-Fi stands for “Light-Fidelity”. Li-Fi refers to wireless communication systems using light as a medium instead of traditional radio frequencies.
▪ In other words, Li-Fi is a more advance technology than Wi-Fi which uses LED light bulbs for transferring data. It’s more faster.
Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) System ::
Present Scenario ::
1.4 Million
5 Billion
Present Scenario ::
▪ Radio Spectrum is congested but the demand for wireless data double each year. Every thing, it seems want to use wireless data but the capacity is dying up.
▪ So what can carry this excess demand in the future.
Another Question ::
Question ::
Who can Replace Radio Waves for wireless Communication ??
How Li-Fi Works ::
▪ Idea behind it is very simple , if the LED is on, you transmit a digital 1, if it’s off you transmit a 0.
▪ The LEDs can be switched on and off very quickly, which gives nice opportunities for transmitting data.
How Li-Fi Works ::
Why Only VLC ??
▪ VLC stands for Visible Light Communication.Radio

Comparison b/w Li-Fi & Wi-Fi
Li-Fi
▪ High Speed than Wi-Fi
▪ High Data Density than
Wi-Fi
▪ Highly Secure than Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi
▪ Less Speed than Li-Fi
▪ Less Data Density than
Li-Fi
▪ Less Secure than Li-Fi
Applications of Li-Fi..
In Traffic Light :-
▪ Traffic Lights can communicate to the car and with each other.
▪ Cars have LED-based headlights, and cars can communicate with each other and prevent accidents in by exchanging information.
Applications of Li-Fi..
Intrinsically Safe Environment :-
▪ Visible Light is more safe than Radio Waves, hence it can be used in places where RF can’t be used such as petrochemical plants, airplanes etc.
Public Internet Hotspot :-
▪ There are millions of street lamps deployed around the world.
▪ Each of these street lamp could be a free access point.
Applications of Li-Fi..
Undersea :-
▪ Li-Fi can even work underwater were Wi-Fi fails completely, thereby throwing open endless opportunities for military/navigation operations.
▪ Monitoring in Oceans.
Conclusion ::
The Possibilities are numerous and can be explored further. If this
technology can be put into practical use, every bulb
can be used something like a Wi-Fi hotspots to transmit
wireless data.
