Reading / Writing - Writing / Reading Dealing with Literature involves both the act of reading AND writing.

It involves critical thinking and linguistic awareness.

It involves the exploration and analysis of texts.

What type of writing will you have to prep for? - Literary responses to questions.

e.g. Read the poem “For my grandmother knitting”. How does Lochhead

create a moving and affectionate portrait of her grandmother in For My

Grandmother Knitting?

- Passage-based questions.

(You’ll read an extract from one of the texts studied at school and answer a

question related to it.)

- Essay questions.

Examiner’s Advice

How will you be assessed? Objectives. - Show detailed knowledge of the content of literary texts.

Make references to the source text.

Point out the evidence you take into account to say what you say.

- Understand the meanings of literary texts and their contexts, and

explore texts beyond surface meanings to show deeper awareness

of ideas and attitudes.

- Recognise and appreciate the ways in which writers use language,

structure and form to create and shape meanings and effects.
