Smartboard Lesson: Sorting by Like qualities. (Slides 1-4)Model sorting objects into two categories and labeling categories using pattern blocks. With a partner children will find a way to sort swizzle sticks into two categories and will label the categories. Children will present their sort to the group. Group will have to label other partner's sorts.

Smartboard Lesson: Sorting by Like qualities. Slides (5-8) Leaf Hunt & Sort - Provide each child with a ziplock bag for a walk through the butterfly garden. Each child should find two leaves. Once back in the classroom children will investigate the leaves collected and determine a wat to sort by a like quality. Children will glue leaves onto bulletin board paper sorting mat.
Read Dinosaur Roar!While reading focus on ways dinosaurs are sorted in the book. Introduce dinosaur figurines from science center. Have children suggest ways to sort the dinosaurs into two categories. (longnecks and not longnecks or spots and no spots, etc.) At the end of small group emphasize and model how dinos should be cleaned up in the science center.

Re-read Where is Pumpkin?Call on children to grab a card from the pumpkin bag.
