• Jacob 4:5• A similitude of God

and His Only Begotten Son

Mount Moriah

Golgotha

Akedah (The Binding)

• עקדה• http://

• During the movie, take notes– What are the similarities between this story and

the sacrifice of Christ?– Pay attention to the emotions, especially of Father

and Son.

Discussion

• First, what are the physical symbols?• What were the roles of each? How much did

they know about their roles?• Why is this difficult for Abraham?• What are the emotions in this ordeal?• How did God the Father feel in a similar

situation?

Willing Sacrifice of the Father and His Son

“Oh, in that moment when He [God] might have saved His Son, I thank Him and praise Him that He did not fail us. . . . I rejoice that He did not interfere, and that His love for us made it possible for Him to endure to look upon the sufferings of His Son and give Him finally to us, our Saviour and our Redeemer. Without Him, without His sacrifice, we would have remained, and we would never have come glorified into His presence. And so this is what it cost, in part, for our Father in heaven to give the gift of His Son unto men” (Melvin Joseph Ballard, Melvin J. Ballard—Crusader for Righteousness [1966], 137).

Elder Melvin J. Ballard

Genesis 22:1–14
