Article abstractThe history of family policies in Quebec can be divided into two periods: theera from the early 20th century to the 1960s, when support for families waslargely provided by religious institutions, and the period starting with theQuiet Revolution, when the state took on a far more active, albeit clearlyinadequate, role. There are in fact serious shortcomings in the legislation andmeasures implemented since 1960 in terms of reconciling the spheres of workand family, a situation that offers little hope for improvement given thecurrent crisis in public finances and the questioning of the welfare state.
