PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Welcome to the last newsletter for Term 3. It has been an extremely busy two weeks.
I had the pleasure of going to watch our students perform at the Gillawarna Music Festival on Monday
night, at Bankstown Sports Club. Once again our students did us very proud with their fantastic
performances. A huge thank you goes to our hard working and dedicated teachers, Ms Alha, Mrs Hiscocks
and Mr Robberds who have given up countless hours of their time to allow our students to have these
opportunities.
Miss Harris will be going on maternity leave at the end of this term. Miss Rahel will be taking the class for
the rest of the year. Mrs Ibrahim and Miss Harris will ensure that all programs will continue in Term 4. We
wish Miss Harris all the very best for this very exciting time.
Our boys White Ribbon Respect Group went to Bankstown today with Mr Toland to record their performance
to be uploaded onto YouTube. This was extremely exciting for our school but especially both for the boys
who have been working on this performance for a very long time.

Coding for Students and Teachers
We were lucky enough to have Simone from Mac1 come back to our school for some more coding training. This time she
worked with the Kindergarten children on Scratch Jnr and introduced Stage 2 and 3 students to Hyperpad. This is another
free app that can be used to design games, interactive books and so much more.
After school, the staff stayed back for many hours for additional training in using various apps to engage and enhance all
of our students learning in all Key Learning Areas.
Thank you to Mrs Azzopardi and Mr Toland who are constantly making sure that our staff are provided with the most up
to date professional learning to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students, in line with our School Plan.
Father’s Day Movie Night
Thanks to all of the families that came along and participated in the P and C’s Movie Night. It was a huge
success and it was great to see so many dads! We hope to see you all again for our next event on the
23rd of November. This will be our White Ribbon Breakfast and assembly.
Flip Out
A huge thank you to all of the families who supported our fundraiser last week. All of the children had a
great time. The management of FlipOut were very impressed with everyone’s behaviour and manners—Well
Done!
Thank you to Lenon Suos in 3/4M for drawing this beautiful picture for
me that illustrates that we are always striving for safe, respectful,
learners at our school. I have now framed and displayed in the office.
Our school community is constantly working towards achieving our
three strategic directions.

Transition to School
Inner West Virtual Community of Practice: www.transitiontoschool.nsw.edu.au
The NSW Department of Education’s Early Childhood Education and Care Directorate is piloting
an online platform, The Inner West Virtual Community of Practice, to enhance connection and
collaboration between early childhood educators, community services and schools in the Local
Government Areas of Sydney’s Inner West: Burwood, Strathfield, Canada Bay and Canterbury
-Bankstown. The online platform provides updates on important matters including effective
transition to school and links to health care services.
Due to the focus on collaboration between early childhood services and primary schools, Early
Childhood Education and Care Directorate would like to invite teachers and parents/caregivers
in schools to participate in the Inner West Virtual Community of Practice online forum. This
“closed social networking” platform will allow teachers, parents and caregivers to share ideas
in a safe online environment. The platform will enhance the connection and collaboration
between families and a range of early childhood, health and community services.

TEACHER’S MESSAGES
SRC News:
The SRC will be holding a Sports Footy day in Week 10, Thursday 22nd of September. On this
day, students can wear their favourite footy or soccer team jerseys, or colours.
K-2 will participate in a lesson on Sports Safety Tips for young Children and 3-6 will learn about
the importance of making safe physical contact in sports such as football and soccer by learning
through the story of former Cronulla Sharks junior football player, Kurt Drysdale.
Kurt was involved in a life changing rugby league accident in 2015, whilst being tackled to the
ground. He has been diagnosed with a broken neck and has undergone two spinal operations to
try and recover and protect the rest of his spinal cord.
To find out more about Kurt’s story at home please visit: aca.nine.com.au/article/9125602/kurt
-drysdale
The SRC are asking our whole school community to get together and rally in support for the
former Cronulla Sharks junior player. Students will be asked to donate a gold coin or more
which will go towards supporting Kurt Drysdale’s fundraising through the New South Wales
Rugby League LTD.
Wrist bands are also on sale for $5. These are limited so please see Mrs Ibrahim if you wish to
purchase one.
LIBRARY NEWS
Students are beginning to explore Readers’ Theatre during library lessons, focusing on familiar
texts, fables and fairy tales. This is a dramatic way of exploring texts where students take on the
role of a character within the story and read out loud according to a script.
Please be aware that due to renovations occurring in the back of the library students will not be
able to borrow during week 10. Books may still be returned during library lessons which will be
held in classrooms.
School holidays are often a time when school items are located at home. Please remember to send
all library books back to school during week 1 of term 4.
