LDVA Governing Board Meeting Minutes
Wednesday February 20th,2019
Meeting started at 6:42pm and all members were welcomed by Principal Nadia
Sammarco and Chairperson Luigi Garofalo .
No additions were made to the agenda and the adoption ofthe agenda was
motioned by Cathy Tamburrino, seconded by Domenic Gaetano, all in favour.
Approval of the January 23rd minutes with correction to the attendance
motioned by Diane Cutrone, seconded by Carole Lafond, all in favour.
Approval of Budget Building Process : Mrs. Sammarco went over the 2 pagereport, the 5 Budget Priorities are as follows :l)lncrease number of resource
teachers allocated to the school, 2) Special needs allocation - childcare
workers and technicians as per our request, 3) Changing the flooring in the
hallways of the first floor, 2nd and 3rd floors. 4) A greater allocation for capital
to be over $1000- to purchase desks, chairs etc. 5) Re-asphalt our school yard.
Approval of budget building process motioned by Ms. Parente and seconded by
Dina Paparelli, all in favour.
Approval of Sexuality Education Timeline and Subjects: A copy of Elementary
Sexuality Education Curriculum Plan 2018-2019 was given to all members. The
program will be taught by English teachers, the social worker, nurse and
school psychologist will be present, if necessary, to speakto students.
Motion to Approve the Sexuality Education Timeline and Subject motioned by
Diane Cutrone, seconded by CathyTamburrino , all in favour.
Approval of expenditures from Fund 3:
Purchase of 30 desks, 30 chairs and 30 bins for $4449.53 -$1000 (paid by
school) for an approval of $3449.53 from fund 3.
Approval of $3449.53 to be paid from fund 3 for the 30 desks, chairs and bins
motioned by Ms. Parente, seconded by Carole Lafond, all in favour.
Approval of Fieldtrips:
On March 29th the Robocup team will be going to Rosemont High school for the
robotics tournament.
On May 9th Gr 3 and Gr 4 will visit the Planetarium and June 10th K, Gr 1 and Gr
2 the Science Center.
Approval ofall above mentioned trips, motioned byCathyTamburrino,
seconded by Domenic Gaetano, all in favour.
Reports
Principal's Report:
Thank you Home and School for Staff appreciation, enjoyed by all.
Hooked on school at LDVA, the older grades are reading to the youngerchildren, all children are very excited.
Gr 4 cross country skiing taking place Feb 21st and on Feb 25th for Gr 3.
An outside obstacle course has been made by Mr. Gaudette and all children are
havinglotsfun.
Parent teacher interviews taking place on Feb 28th upon teacher or parentrequest. Report card being sent home Feb 27th.
On Feb 27th will be Carnival day with Mega Animation.
Gr 4, 5, 6 participating in the Math Challenge.
Gr 6 winter Camp lots of fun.
Neuro tryouts took place, results will be announced Friday.
Vice-Principal's Report:
The importance of sharing LDVA on social media for school exposure.
Kindergarten registration is at 60 students registered with a possibility of 4
more.
K orientation will be held on May 21st.
Teacher Report:
Thank you again Home and School Parents, Pure and Simple raised about
$1300. Special thank you to Ampack who donated 500 jars for Pure and
Simple.
School registered with OS Entreprendre (inspire the spirit of entrepreneurship
programs such as unite sans violence, talent show and pure and simple).
Grade 6 winter camp was lots of fun, activities such as cross country skiing,
tubing, downhill skiing, tubing and crazy carpets.
Daycare Report: Ped day is scheduled for Feb 18, 61 kids attending.
March 1st; St Patrick theme, March 15th, Mega Animation will be coming.
On May 21st will be an in house day.
Pre-k Report: A Valentine's day breakfast was enjoyed by all Pre-k Students.
Thank you to Mr. Gaudette that involves the children in physical challenges
and the obstacle course.
Pre-k took place in filming Tabata activity that will be shown to students.
Home and School Report: 108 Dozen Bagels ordered, fundraiser works well,
received great feedback fOr staff appreciation. On carnival day Home and
School will be giving out snacks and hot chocolate. Comedy night profits will
go towards improvements to the library. In April a new Jam fundraiser will
be launched.
