SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

MESSAGE FROM TIM HAMER
The arts communicate the fact that neither words in their literal form nor numbers exhaust what we can know. The limits of our language do not define the limits of our minds.
The arts teach students to know and value the divine spark that unites and ennobles all humanity and provides glimpses of the universal experiences of love, beauty, courage, faith and sorrow that often raise sights and inspire greatness.
Learning in the arts requires the ability and a willingness to surrender to the unanticipated possibilities of the work as it unfolds.
The arts enable us to have experiences we can have from no other source and through such experiences to discover the range and variety of what we are capable of feeling.
Live Jesus!

MESSAGE FROM TERRY KLUGH
LCHS believes the Fine & Performing Arts are an essential part of a Catholic faith-based education. Through the arts, students learn expression of themselves and their faith. They acquire an understanding of both past and present cultures plus a realization of how these cultures are relevant to the world in which they currently live.
The Fine & Performing Arts are valued for integrating mind, body and spirit-educating the whole person. Students learn the importance of both independence and collaboration as they realize the process of learning is as important as its content.
The Fine & Performing Arts allows students to appreciate our creative God in nature and how to utilize different areas of their creativity. In this creative expression, the arts are both universal and culturally specific, serving as a powerful means of increasing a students international and intercultural awareness.
As a creative expression, the Fine & Performing Arts encourage growth in self-esteem, risk-taking, and sharpen skills in the mastery of many techniques and mediums.
Sincerely,
Terry Klugh, Principal
I started at Lancaster Catholic already loving music. The FPA offered so many opportunities to learn, perform, and test my abilities through competition - even at the national level. Once I decided to make music my career, I took advantage of additional private lessons and AP music
theory with the schools exemplary faculty. Today I am blessed to be studying mallet percussion with a
renowned composer and performer at the college of my choice. My FPA experience led me here. I will
be forever grateful to the FPA teachers and fellow students who inspired and encouraged me to pursue my passion. - Grace Asuncion 15, Music Performance Major - Scholarship Student, Ithaca College

IN THE COMMUNITY
The LCHS Fine & Performing Arts program has a rich history in the Lancaster County community. We strive to bring the arts to children, our high school students and the community. A diverse selection of programs and activities transcends age and proves that everyone can benefit from the arts.
Instrumental Music in our Catholic Partner Schools:
Lancaster Catholic is proud to offer instrumental lessons to students in third through eighth grade in our six partner elementary schools.
To recognize gifted students who excel in music, art, dance or theatre, we offer a $1000 scholarship to three freshmen each year. Students must submit an essay and letters of recommendation to compete for the merit-based scholarship.
We partner with a broad range of music educators and associations throughout Lancaster, in the state and nationally to offer LCHS students the best music programs possible. These include choral and orchestra programs, marching band and color guard, as well as audition-based events.
The love of the arts extends well past the high school years. We present a free monthly Concert and Lecture series featuring FPA staff, students, alumni and community members. As diverse as the arts, the series includes musical performances, art, drama and lecture.

WHERE WE CAN TAKE YOU
- Carlyn Slagle, Class of 2013
My experience at Catholic and with Mr.
Ressel and his art classes truly changed the course of my life. When I was a senior I was uncertain about the direction
of my future. With the guidance and
endless encouragement of Mr. Ressel, I was able to organize a strong
portfolio and gain acceptance from three art universities. I am now a junior at Alfred University pursuing
the ceramic arts in Beijing, China, for the
semester.
Without a doubt, I attribute my success solely to the support that Mr. Ressel has given me and all of his students for the last 40 years.
WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE
We encourage you to share your gifts and talents with the community through the numerous audition-based competitions, theatrical companies, art shows and productions in Lancaster County and beyond. One of the highlights of the Fine & Performing Arts program is the legacy of the arts found throughout the community and nation by our alumni. Many continue to pursue their passions long after they graduate from LCHS.

A successful career in Fine & Performing Arts begins with the belief that you are capable of achieving your dreams, no matter how unattainable they may seem. There can
be no doubts. The journey itself will not be easy - it cannot be handed to you - but the rewards will remain with you for a lifetime. You must be challenged to discover your true self, but to think that you cant have fun during the process is a grievous misconception. My Lancaster Catholic education helped me understand this,
and I am forever grateful. My Alma Mater has taught me what it means to stay connected, to make myself marketable and settle for nothing less than the absolute best.
My teachers instilled in me the importance of love, faith, and hard work. My friends and family from the LCHS community have supported me since day one, and they have fostered my love of music. It is disconcerting to think where my life would be today if it werent for these amazing role models. Lancaster Catholic is my home away from home, and it always will be. Receiving a gift such as this is difficult to repay, but I will start by healing the hearts of others and praising God through my music. To me, success is not about power or wealth. To me, success is about making the world a better place; its looking back at where you started, and smiling, knowing how far you have come.
