VRLA Batteries: Expected life -v- temperature

Graph reproduced from the Eurobat Guide. A battery is considered at the end of its service life whenever delivering

less than 80% of its nominal capacity.

It is desirable to maintain VRLA batteries at 20°C at all times.

Klondike CoolBath™ - Indoor

For UPS rooms. VRLA batteries should be maintained at 20°C to maximise their service life. Electronic equipment, switched mode power supplies etc. can typically be operated at >30°C. Using air conditioning to maintaining an entire room at a lower temperature for the sake of the batteries is inefficient.

Klondike CoolBath™ - Indoor

The indoor Klondike CoolBath™ keeps batteries at 20°C while air conditioning set point is increased to allow room temperature to increase to up to 35°C.

• Patented technology developed by Bell Labs • Replaces current battery racks • Solid state construction = high reliability and no routine maintenance. •Average power consumption ≈ 25W

Klondike CoolBath™ - Outdoor

For outdoor VRLA batteries (e.g. generator start up batteries) The outdoor Klondike CoolBath™ keeps batteries at 20°C while the ambient air temperature increase to up to 45°C.

• Similar design to indoor Klondike CoolBath™ • Operating temperature up to 60°C. •IP67 rating

Klondike CoolString™

Originally designed for cooling battery banks in telecoms BTS cabinets Cool air from the air conditioning system doesn’t adequately penetrate the voids between the batteries, leading to heat build up and premature failure.

Klondike CoolString™

The Klondike CoolString™ removes heat from the voids between VRLA batteries and dissipates it into the air flow from the air conditioning system.

• Patented technology developed by Bell Labs • Solid state construction = high reliability and no routine maintenance. •Average power consumption ≈ 25W per bank of four VRLA batteries

Overview of results from the Klondike CoolString™ operating in a BTS cabinet in Doha, Qatar.

Klondike CoolRack™

Cools hot spots in rack mounted electronics in broadcasting, IT and data centres. Localised hot spots can cause equipment to go into alarm mode and effect reliability and signal quality. The Klondike CoolRack™ introduces additional local cooling to combat hot spots. Equipment density can also be increased.

Klondike CoolRack™

The Klondike CoolRack™ efficiently extracts heat from equipment and dissipates it into the air conditioned environment.

• Retrofittable to a standard 19” rack • Solid state construction = high reliability and no routine maintenance. • Interface for BMS
