PLANNING PROCESS

WHAT IS A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN?

A comprehensive plan is a road map that outlines how a city’s vision will be met over time.Comprehensive plans are continuously updated, usually every 5 to 10 years.

CURRENT PLAN (2015)

Vision: The City of Chamblee aspires to be a healthy, vibrant, safe environment where residents live, work, play and grow in a diverse community valuing families and neighbors, respecting the historic qualities of our city.

Goals:• Create a sense of community identity• Support a thriving business environment• Promote a healthy and safe living environment• Develop and maintain strong multi-modal connections• Provide quality government service through partnership and cooperation

• 20 total character areas• Location-based vision and

policy statement to help guide future development

• Each has its own set of goals and policies, and recommends appropriate zoning districts and implementation measures

SCOPE

Chamblee has seen a boom in development over the last several years, and the city’s vision has been coming to life in the built environment.

This updated plan will:

• Determine what in the current plan is working, and what needs improvement;

• Make specific recommendations for land use and future development, and create additional guidelines for infill development;

• Develop a plan for economic development;

• Make recommendations for increasing walkability and bikeability; and

• Develop a plan for increased sustainability.
