our Building Committee has just received the revised bids for our proposed new building. remember that the initial bid opening revealed all of the bids to be over budget. After making some changes in the specifications, new bids have now been received. We are now ready to move forward.
this week the Building Committee, trustees, and Leadership Council will be working to craft a recommendation to the church about how we will proceed with this building program. on Monday night, June 13, the Deacons will discuss this recommendation.
You will have an opportunity to hear a presentation and be a part of the discussion about the building recommendation. Wednesday night, June 15, we will have a Called Business Meeting in the Fellowship hall at 5:45 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the recommendation from the Leadership Council. the Building Committee will walk us through the plans and then we will have time for questions, answers, and discussion.
the Messenger next week will contain the specific recommendation that will go to the church. Please read it carefully when you get your newsletter. Printed copies will be available on sunday, June 19.
We will vote by written ballot in both morning worship services on June 26. Provisions will be made for absentee ballots to be cast during the week prior to the vote.
our Building Committee has done wonderful work bringing us to this point. We continue to trust in god’s guidance as we take each new step along the way. i encourage you to pray and participate in the process as we make significant decisions for the future of our church.

FBC Disaster Relief Work in Madison County
There are several ways that you can help with the tornado relief work sponsored by First Baptist in cooperation with the leadership of the Harvest Youth Club and director Melvyn Allen. There has been a coalition of churches who have met on a regular basis to develop long term plans of how best to assist the Lockhart Road community, one of the least able to help themselves and will need care beyond debris removal.
Construction Assistance - Led by Gordon Perry. This will be similar to our work in Perry County but on a long-term basis. This will initially focus on construction. Gordon plans to work with those who normally commit to the week of Perry County; however, any that can take off a day of work here and there are encouraged to do so. Those who cannot take off work are encouraged to help on Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays beginning at 4:30. Lunch will be provided for those who work during the day and supper will be provided for those coming straight from work. Watch for directions and specifics to be available in Sunday School classes and through emails. Please respond to Gordon by email or phone if you can help at any time so he can plan for the meals. Cell – 256-651-8660 – email - perry62@knology.net.
Playground Construction - The community playground at the Harvest Youth Club was blown away. In the weeks to come we will have some work days to put the playground together. Watch for dates when that workday is scheduled.
Sports Camp - Our Forum group along with other young adults will help with a sports camp or some field days for the Lockhart community. We will need adult leaders in all areas of sports to assist or adult sponsors to lead small groups if we take a field day (for example, bowling). Watch for more information coming soon.
over the next months our church will be in a key position to offer long-term care for a devastated community. please volunteer liberally with your time and skills. For more information on these projects, contact

On May 25 & 26 The Hallelujah Choir traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky to visit with the Senior Adult Fellowship (SAF) group at First Baptist Church. We shared friendship, music and ideas. We met with their Senior Adult Choir to practice new music, which was enlightening. We shared two meals, benefitting from their loving generosity. Our time spent with these new friends was the epitome of Christian fellowship. Galatians 2:9 says “James, Peter & John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me & Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me.”

We have been asked to help with the Harvest Youth Club, an area especially hard hit by the tornado. This Monday to Friday summer
program will work with small groups and the focus will be on music. FBC is looking for adults and students who would like to help one day
or all week. Also, any who play a musical instrument would be welcome on a day when we feature many different types of instruments. A planning meeting will be held this Wednesday night in room 140 at
5:30. We will need about 10-12 workers each day.
