National Sales Trends: Up in Early 2012

• Beer volumes for the first four months of 2012 are up 1.6%.

• Imported beer volumes grew by almost 3% while domestic beer volumes grew 1.5%.

• Specialty high end market continues to grow double digits in 2012.

On-premise Beer Sales • On-premise retail sales are

estimated to have risen over 4% as high end imports and domestic beers gained popularity with consumers.

• In 2011 on-premise industry volumes accounted for 20% of industry volume but generated over 50% of industry retail sales dollars.

Draft Beer is Growing• Draft beer continued to gain

share of US market place in 2011, reaching a solid 10 share of industry volumes.

• Both domestic and imported draft beer volumes grew with popularity of high end beers on premise.

Quality Partnership

Brewers and importers are working with tavern keepers, restaurant owners and stores to maintain draft beer quality.

Beer Drives the Alcohol Beverage Industry

• Beer accounts for 53% of the value among total alcohol beverages. – In 2010, the full economic impact

of beer was $223.7 billion of the $400 billion alcohol industry.

– Beer accounts for 60 percent of the 3.2 million total jobs in the alcohol beverage industry.
