Tata Motors-owned JaguarLand Rover UK has tempor-arily suspended productionfrom its two factories in Bri-tain, following a shortage ofcomputer chips and supply-chain disruptions due toCovid-19.

JLR, a wholly-owned subsi-diary of Tata Motors, has hal-ted production at CastleBromwich and Halewoodplants, while manufactur-ing at its third plant at Soli-hull will continueunhindered.

Supply-chain disruption“Jaguar Land Rover UK, likeother automotive manufac-turers, is currently experien-cing some Covid-19 supplychain disruption, includingthe global availability ofsemi-conductors, which ishaving an impact on its pro-

duction schedules and abil-ity to meet global demandfor some of their vehicles,”Tata Motors said in a stockexchange notice onThursday.

“As a result, JLR has adjus-ted production schedulesfor certain vehicles whichmeans that the Castle Brom-wich and Halewood manu-facturing plants will be op-erating a limited period ofnon-production from

Monday, April 26, 2021. Man-ufacturing continues at theSolihull plant,” it added.

JLR is working closelywith affected suppliers to re-solve the issues and minim-ise the impact on customerorders wherever possible, itadded.

Industries across theworld have been facing ashortage of semi-conduct-ors, which apart from theautomobile industry is alsoexpected to hit productionof mobile phones and elec-tronic items such as TVs,computers and laptops.

The auto industry hasbeen one of the worst af-fected. Ford on Thursday ex-tended shutdowns at five USplants. Earlier this week,Daimler slashed workinghours in Germany due tolower production, whileRenault warned that thesituation would deteriorate.
