Four Events…
Athletes time trial the course individually in sprint and classic and as three in the team event. There are no gates, the athletes choose their own route and tactics.
They have to negotiate both natural and artificial waves, stoppers, drops and weirs along with the flat water in between.
Every river is different…but they all make for a good downriver race!
Jessica has been downriver racing since 2002. She
progressed successfully through the junior ranks and is now one of the top women
internationally. This year taking a European bronze
medal in her first year as a senior.
She is currently taking a break from her studies to train for the international season of 2008. Jessica is now based in the Italian mountain town of Valstagna. It has a busy river sport scene and is famous for producing World and Olympic Champions in the sports of Downriver and Canoe Slalom.

Travelling nationally and internationally to races, whilst
training 20 hours per week costs a lot.Specialist
equipment is also very expensive.

become... world champion.
