"In obedience to the Old Law, the Lord Jesus, the first-born, was presented in the Temple by his Blessed Mother and his foster father. This is another 'epiphany' celebration insofar as the Christ Child is revealed as the Messiah through the canticle and words of Simeon and the testimony of Anna the prophetess. Christ is the light of the nations, hence the blessing and procession of candles on this day. In the Middle Ages this feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or 'Candlemas,' was of great importance."The specific liturgy of this Candlemas feast, the blessing of candles, is not as widely celebrated as it should be, except of course whenever February 2 falls on a Sunday and thus takes precedence. There are two ways of celebrating the ceremony, either the Procession, which begins at a 'gathering place' outside the church, or the Solemn Entrance, celebrated within the church."

Take this simple 10 day spiritual challenge.
I recently discovered this two minute video clip of Fr. Gary Caster talking about how Saint Mother Teresa taught him to start his day. Watch it here. February 1st through February 10th let’s try this simple thing each morning. Let’s instill this habit in our children. (Even the smallest among us can begin their day this way.) Will this one simple organic habit have a profound effect on your life? Don’t squeeze Jesus in...naturally fit Him into your day. Begin a more authentic relationship with Jesus...take the challenge!
It is a new month! Time to work on developing a new virtue. In February we will devote our energy to the virtue of Honesty. We will define honesty as being trustworthy and true. Trustworthiness includes being reliable and dependable. Do you do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it? When you define something as being true you mean it is accurate, faithful, unvarnished. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Join us this month as we work to develop an atmosphere of honesty where we can reliably help trust flourish in each relationship and every corner of our lives.
As an extension of the Church, St. Thomas School is a faith community emphasizing Catholic teachings, virtues and traditions while valuing diversity and respect for all. Twenty years ago, Saint Pope John Paul II said to an audience of Catholic educators in New Orleans: "Yours is a great gift to the Church, a great gift to your nation." Countless people in our country have been blessed by the many gifts of Catholic schools.
This national day of philanthropy and camaraderie invites all people, across the country, who have been impacted by Catholic school education in ways big and small, to financially donate to Catholic schools.
Please use the link above to make a donation to St. Thomas School; please select tuition.

©LPi
