James 4:13

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow.”

James 4:14-15

“For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’”

To Walk Is To Move Forward!

• Walking is an activity we can do to maintain physical well-being.

• Walking 30-60 minutes daily sharply reduces your risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes.

• It also increases your brain power, improves your mood, reduces stress, and can be done anywhere.

To Walk Is To Move Forward!

• Walking with God is even more important to maintaining our spiritual health.

• Reading the Bible one hour per day would allow us to read through the entire Bible nearly 5 times per year.

• Daily prayer allows us to have dialogue with God – not a monologue.

• Regular worship brings us closer to Him.

Three Types of “Christians”

• The truly devoted– Serve God every day, no matter what –

they walk in love

• The half-hearted– If something better comes up, they choose it

over God – they walk according to convenience

• In name only– “Easter and Christmas” – have no intention

of serving God daily; they walk in worldliness

Walking Requires Commitment

• Walking with God requires us to follow Him – not the other way around.

• Walking with God requires a daily re-commitment in order to please Him.

• Walking takes wisdom, work, patience, and diligence!

Our Lord walked…while walking with God!

• It is estimated that Jesus walked at least 21,525 miles during His lifetime.

• That is about 2 years, 346 days of walking during His 33 years on Earth.

• He walked in extreme heat, cold, in mountainous terrain, and at peril to Himself and His company.

Colossians 4:5

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Walking in HIS Will

• For us to say “If the Lord wills” (James 4:15) and mean it, we have to be willing to put God’s will first in everything!

Walking in HIS Will

• For us to say “If the Lord wills” (James 4:15) and mean it, we have to be willing to put God’s will first in everything!– True, devoted Christians move TOWARD God– Half-hearted Christians stand in place– Christians in name only move AWAY from God

• Can you imagine saying this – knowing exactly what would happen to you in just a brief period of time?

Matthew 6:10

Matthew 16:24-25

“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.’”
